D.'s Story
Life
I was, or at least felt like an outcast in high school. I was one of the 'new-wavers' that no one really talked to. I battled with my sexuality as well, so that made it a double whammy for me. Being somewhat intraverted back then I turned to writing as a way to express myself. I found comfort and tranquility in the written word. Coming from a morbidly dysfunctional family, I had no direction with my life. I barely new who I was, let alone what I wanted to become. I eventually became a hairdresser at 18 (after dropping out of high school six months before graduation) and did that for 12 years. I never felt like Florida was the right fit for me so in my early thirties I sold everything I owned, which wasn't much and moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream of writing a movie. hew and nieces with every fiber of my being. I went in to the Real Estate business and obtained my DRE California license and worked as a loan officer until the market crashed. I began asking myself "what can I do to contribute to society"? I wanted to be part of something bigger than myself so I started looking into the healthcare industry and found my answer. In January of '08 I will be taking a CNA course and from there working my way into Forensic Nursing. Until that all comes to fruition I have started and own a dog walking/pet sitting company which is very popular here in LA.I have two dogs and two cats and one wonderful partner whom I've been with for almost five years now. I've taken the long way around to 'get back to me' but the journey has been worth it.My new motto is this: Don't find yourself. Invent yourself. I will end this with the proud anouncement that at 38 years of age I went back to school and earned my GED. See it's never too late. Thank you for taking the time and interest in reading this.
