Dale's Story
I was born in Fort Worth Texas a year after my father graduated from Texas Christian University ('TCU'). He attended TCU on a football scholarship and was co-captain of the 1947 Horned Frog team. He met my mother at TCU after he had returned from military service in World War II. My mother transferred to TCU from the University of Nebraska. Her first husband was an officer and crew member of a B-24 aircraft that was downed in 1944 by enemy ground fire while on a bombing mission over Vienna Austria.
After two years as a high school football coach in De Leon Texas, Dad moved us to the little town where he was born - Killeen, I attended school at Avenue D Elementary, Meadows Elementary, Fowler Elementary (the original location), Nolan Junior High and finally Killeen High. After graduation, I attended what was called at the time Southwest Texas State University. ('SWTSU'). Throughout the years, I called home as either Dallas, Houston or Austin - more accurately, my home bases. While in Dallas, employment assignments required frequent travel to most of the major cities of our country.
Shortly after accepting a non-travel position with a company in Houston, I met Susan. We both married late in our lives (1998) at the church where we met. It was worth the wait. Susan's father was an aerospace engineer who worked on the Apollo project at NASA's Johnson Space Center near Houston. We moved to Austin in 1999 when I took a position with an IT services provider. In 2003 we moved back to the Houston area (League City). I worked in Galveston and Susan worked in Houston. We returned to Austin in 2007. where I was employed as a senior systems analyst with a regulatory agency of the State of Texas.
I retired from professional service on April 30, 2020. I am currently working on the 'honey do' list around our home and enjoying daily operations on my own schedule.
