Dale's Story
Life
This part is still under construction. I just realized that I've ignored the whole classmates thing, and will make amends, at least as far as the profile goes...!!
Film at 11....
School
Ahhh....Kelton Elementary in Dormont, 2 years at Keystone Oaks ('65-'67), 2 years at Butler Senior HS ('67-'69). Good times were had by all...!!
More later...
College
I ended up starting college at Valparaiso University in Indiana, because I didn't get enough of a dam scholarship from Johns Hopkins, but that's OK because I only lasted about 10 minutes in pre-med, anyhow. I did, however, play a year for Gene Bartow, before he went to Memphis State, and then replaced Wooden at UCLA. Transferred to Indiana University in '73, and tried out for the General, but didn't quite make it...!! Got a BS(no pun intended) in Biology in '75, and an MS in Environmental Science (biology and geology) in '78. They say that one's college time is the best years of one's life, but, except for 2004, EVERY year has been the best year of my life....!!
Workplace
Sweet Home Chicago...!! I finally ended up back here after a long and somewhat twisted career route, but life is good, and it just gets bet...Expand for more
ter. I've been an Environmental Consultant since '76, covering cleanups at Superfund sites, wetlands assessments, threatened and endangered species analyses, and all kinds of geological, hydrological, water supply, water quality, air quality, and related situations. I worked with some of the largest, and smallest, consulting engineering firms in the US, and have been all over the world doing my little part in maintaining stability in our natural systems through preserving and enhancing diversity.
But now, I own a residential construction company here in Chicago, and have more projects going than ever. Still do the environmental consulting, though, but on my terms, and not by the clock....!! Also play bass in a blues band, although that's not really work.
Military
I was in the second year of the draft lottery....#166. They called through 275 the first year, and in October of my year, they announced that they were only calling through #125. I dropped my student deferrment (the old 2-S) and went 1-A through the end of the year, didn't get called, and went 1-H thereafter. I thank God every day that I didn't have to go to Vietnam....I lost too many friends and relatives there.
