Military
Enlisted into the Coast Guard May '72, boot camp Cape May NJ. Aug '72 attended school in NY for Marine Science Technician. Graduated Dec'72 and assigned to a ship(CGC ESCANABA)in New Bedford, Ma until July '73. Ship was decomissioned and I was assigned to CG Oceanographic Unit in Washington, DC., were I stayed until July '76. Feb to July '76 I attended Navy's Weather Forcaster school in Lackhurst, NJ, after wich I was assigned to pre-commissioning detail, Air station in St. Petersburg, Fl. and later to Airsta St.Petersburg. After a year I received orders to a new Ice Breaker(CGC Polar Star) homeported in Seattle Washington. I reported aboard one day and the ship sailed the next to Antarctica. The ship stopped in Wellington, New Zealand for approx a week and stayed over two week for repairs, and Christmas. ply ships could resupply the station. Having broke the propellers breaking ice, we limped back to Wellington and made repairs to return to Seattle April '78. Nov '78 I received orders back to St. Petersburg were I stayed until Dec '81 were I was assigned to a unit called International Ice Patrol on Governors Island NY. My duties were to fly over the Grand Banks of Newfoundland and track and map icebergs and ice flows and their changing posiions, from Jan thru Aug every year I was there. I was there 5 years. Sept '86 I received orders to Houston, Tx were I had to learn a hole new job. I investigated oil spills, chemical spills, commercial vessel boardings for safety and international laws compliance. I was in Houston for 6 years. Jan'91 I was assigned to New Orleans, La. were my duties were the same as in Houston. I retired Sept '98, after 26 years, and came home to provide care for my ailling mother.
