Retrospection
As I look back over my life, I have been blessed with loving family, friends and fun jobs. My best memories of QHS were: the band trip to play at the 1964 World's Fair in NYC, the Gotchers , sit-ins, mini-skirts and the band Marcabeÿ.
I was briefly married to classmate, Gene Whitney. Later I graduated from ACC and then Skidmore College with a BS degree in Business. My passion for photography lead me to a job at Ray Supply in the photo dept. With the purchase of a 1974 Jeep CJ5, I spent a lot of time in the outdoors hiking, taking photos or driving off road with the North Country 4X4 Club. I met David Fisher while volunteering at the Lake George Winter Carnival running the 4X4 Ice Races on the Ice of Lake George. We had a son Lindsay who is diagnosed as multiply handicapped child who inspired me to become very active with advocacy and volunteered on the Family Support Committee at the NYS Office for Persons with Developmental Disabilities. David and I parted our ways but remain good friends.
I had a very successful 17 year career at Radio Shack. Winning many awards for sales and achieved the award for being a Top 100 manager in the 7000 store chain in 1988. In the same year, I married Mark Miller and then we had a beautiful daughter Melissa. I attended the QHS 20 year reunion with pictures of a cute baby girl of six weeks while many friends had photos of their grandchildren. I quess it took me longer to find the perfect mate and start a family. Mark has two children from a previous marriage, Janine and Jeremy and we have four grandchildren Joshua, Jaden, Jaelyn and Jasmine. (See anniversary photo). Mark and I have owned several houses, buying wrecks and renovating them. Our current home is still a work in progress. I still play clarinet as a member of the Hart...Expand for more
ford Community Band. I love all genera of music. With the support of family, in 2001 I went back to college to earn a Bachelors Degree in Human Service Management and landed a job at Wildwood Programs in Latham as a Service Coordinator for the cognitively challanged and developmentally disabled. I continue to volunteer as an advocate for the disabled. In 2007, I left my Wildwood coworkers for a position at Community Living and Advocacy Support which allows me to do the same job but from my home office eliminating the hour plus commute to Latham.
Currently my son Lindsay lives in a group home in South Glens Falls and loving it. Melissa completed her Master's in Art Education k-12 certification at SUNY Oswego and is an art teacher in the Adirondack Central School District. We are doting grandparents to Janine's sons JJ, Jaden, Jaelyn and Jeremy's daughter Jasmine. Both my brothers, Dick and Will are married and live close by. Donna lives in Florida.
For those who remember my mother Wanita Hoag, this dynamic woman passed away in 2003 after a two year battle with cancer. She never let it get her down. She was active in the Glens Falls Community Theater group for 50 years. She continued to be an official for NYS Empire Games and Olympic Committee in Lake Placid for Nordic and Biathlon events until her death. She died with great grace and dignity hanging on until she saw every friend to say goodbye.
Life has it's ups and down but I will continue to do the things I love: play music and enjoy family. In retirement, I am busy volunteering the the Kingsbury Senior Center developing day trips to cultural, historical and fun places. Most recently, our 4 year old grand daughter has been placed with us so I am back in the child raising mode, so much for a quiet retirement. She is so precious.
