Dale's Story
Life
About six months after graduation. my stepfather adopted me and my two younger brothers, and my name changed to Dale Varner. In July 1976, I joined the United States Marine Corps. I went to boot camp at Parris Island, SC, basic electronics school in Memphis, TN, and Precision Measuring Equipment Laboratory achool in Denver, CO. I spent the last two and a half years of my four year tour at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in Santa Ana, CA. While in Denver, I met a girl named Diane in April 1977 and married her in October 1977. While we were in California, our first son, Ben, was born. I was honorably discharged from the Corps in July 1980 and moved back to Colorado. bout a year and a half later, our second son, Rick, was born. Hard to believe they're 22 and 19 already. I just had my twenty year anniversary at Lockheed Martin Astronautics. After numerous title changes over the last five years but never changing desks, I am currently the Senior Staff Engineer in the MEtrology Laboratory. I earned my B.S. in Technical Management with a Comuter Information Systems minor from Regis University in 1992. I am currently working on my M.S, in Computer Information Systems at Regis and should be done in December 2001. I am also involved in the technical community in several volunteer positions: Diector in the Association of Measurement Professionals, Chairman of the Calibration/Certification Procedures Committee for the National Conference of Standards Laboratories, and Chairman of the Advisory Committee for the Community College of Aurora (CO) Metrology Program.
