Dan's Story
I left Seaside in 1963 after my freshman year. Never did finish high school in a face-to-face manner (got a GED while in the military) so Seaside was my only high school experience - and I have some fond memories of my time there.
I spent three years in the Army (11/63 to 11/66) ending up at Fort Lewis, WA and eventually Portland, OR where I started college at Portland Community College. There were some familiar faces from Seaside in 1-2 of my classes at PCC. After one year I transferred to a university. I received a bachelors degree (physics and math dual major) from Western Washington University (Bellingham, WA) in 1972 and a masters degree (electrical engineering) from San Diego State University in 1974.
I live in Toledo, Ohio - where I was born. Moved back here to teach. I have been teaching at the University of Toledo for 31 years and am currently the chairman of our engineering technology department. Starting to think about...Expand for more
retirement. We are even talking about the possibility of moving (back) to Oregon. A long shot, but possible.
My wife's name is Linda and she too is from Toledo, OH. I have seven children (Kim 40, Sindy 37, Tina 35, D.J. 32, Martin 30, Tony 16 and Kelly 14). The older five have fifteen children between them - so I'm a grandfather many times over. Kelly starts high school in the fall so the end is in sight! All of my children and grandchildren live in and around Toledo, Ohio.
Most of my family (mother, brothers and sisters) still live in Oregon - Springfield/Eugene to be specific - so I get out to the NW every so often. More often in the past 2-3 years. A trip to Seaside and a walk down memory lane is not out of the question.
My sister - Doris Hollyman-Pitkanen - also went to Seaside and is responsible for my involvement in Classmates. She has gently prodded and pushed me into posting. Guess that's one of the reasons I love her.
