Dan's Story
At Michigan City Rogers High School, I began coming out of my shell. I joined Choir, Minnesingers, German Club, swim team, was president of National Honor Society, and had bit roles in some of the school plays. I remember making my big debut at Bits 'N Pieces Talent Show singing "Yankee Doodle Dandy" while dressed in a white tux with white wing feathers, orange knee socks and orange webbed feet, playing guitar and singing in my Donald Duck voice... And I remember the standing ovation it got! Wow, was THAT a turning point!
Today, I am a Sword Swallower with 35 World Records, 7 Guinness World Records, 4 Ripley's Believe It or Nots, and I get to speak and perform in 25+ countries around the world. In 2007 I was honored to win the 2007 Ig Nobel Prize in Medicine at Harvard for a medical research paper I co-wrote entitled "Sword Swallowing and its Side Effects" that was published in the British Medical Journal. In 2008, I made it on 7 episodes of America's Got Talent as the "Mos...Expand for more
t Dangerous Act" on America's Got talent, from Nashville to Atlanta to the Las Vegas semi-finals and the Finals in Hollywood. In 2009, I got to speak at the World Peace Conference, and perform with Cirque Eloize Montreal. In 2010, I was featured on Stan Lee's Superhumans as a "Man of Steel" for swallowing a red hot sword heated to 1500 red hot. In 2010, I injured myself while swallowing 2 swords underwater for Guinness World Record TV in Rome Italy. But in 2013, I managed to swallow a sword and use it to pull a 3700 lb car out of Ripley's Believe It or Not Baltimore on World Sword Swallowers Day.
I am now president of the Sword Swallowers Association International based in Tampa, FL and now get to speak and perform at top universities, science festivals, medical events, corporate events, youth events, churches, Upward Unlimtied events, fair festivals, cruise ships, documentaries, TV shows, and TED talks around the world. If you went to MC Rogers in the 70s, please say hi!
