Dan's Story

Where do we begin after all these years? Came to Paxon Jr. from Dinsmore Elementary if I remember right my home room was 7L. It was a big change for me coming from a very rural area to Melison Ave and 5th street. I was in Orchestra, Auto Shop and a very short time in Sports. For those who remember I was in a motorcycle accident in the 9th grade that changed everything for me. I live everyday as an extra day given to me and try to return something positive in return. I stayed in the Jacksonville area till the late 90's then moved to Clay County. I always wanted to be "old and happy" when I grew up. My family and friends thought that funny idea. As it turns out, "I am". I go to the beach and sit in the life guard towers. Just to get away. I enjoy Sunrise the most it's the best time. Back in the day CB radio was king. If you remember looking out in the parking lot and seeing my little Datsun pick-up with that big white antenna and PA horn, well that stayed with me got into HAM radio my call is KF4YJZ and I worked with radios and computers to this day. Not only being a parent, but a single parent was a lot harder than I ever dreamed. Now those were ruff times but looking back not all bad times. Had one son he's in his 30's now we call and email each other often. Which teacher would you love to see again? Why? Louis J Frederick my old Auto Shop teacher I c...Expand for more
an see him now standing in front of the class with his fingers almost pinched tighter saying "if you guys could only think this much, you would have the world by the tail" and "Notice I'm standing so you can see the sunlight between my fingers". My current age is 56. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old history. I was so completely wrong. In ways I still feel 12 years old but somehow feel like I have fuller more complete life. I still work, when I left school went to work at John Deal Chevy, then did sometime in the Navy, got a job out at NAS Jax and now thinking of retirement after 35 years. What happened to your first crush? Now that's one of life's mysteries. At the age of 12 and in the 7th grade she never knew the things I wanted to say to her. I was so foolish back then I just didn't know how to say them. I still look for her to this today and hope she is doing well, her name is Vickie Chesser . Later on you might remember two people sitting on the benches every afternoon near the Auto Shop that was me and Mary Jones we stayed together from 70 to late 74. Some years later I learned she worked at NAS Jax with me I would stop by her office or we would call each other. Around five years ago she retired to spend more time with her family. I will add more to my story a little later see you then. Dan Kf4yjz (at) gmail (dot) com
