Dan's Story

Since graduating from Lawndale High in 1974... Tried marriage once...it worked for about four years, that was it! Since divorce in 1990, have not come even close to trying it again and do not intend to try that again! Worked at various bowling alleys since 1975; am a top-notch mechanic but unfortunately no one wants to pay the price for top-notch mechanics (should have gotten interested in auto mechanics -- lot more money there); bowling alley owners then wonder why they cannot hold on to these top mechanics! Update on 7-1-14: Took myself off the work force due to the Ovomit administration's efforts to control every aspect of my life, including his illegal "law", the so-called affordable health care act! ... I actually helped close a bowling center October 1, 2013 (Phoenix Lanes aka Bowl-O-Matic); lasted 4 1/2 years there, then went over to work for Potters House's King Pin Lanes but lasted only four months due to complications from my 2005 surgery for inguinal hernia and also due to the senseless drama others kept trying to bring to me, so it was time to get out and call it quits. I was trying to make it until I hit 62 but came up four years short on that intention. Am now seeking Disability. I have one daughter, Jackie, 27 ... she got robbed at gunpoint March 2011 at the Pizza Hut where she works; the perpetrator's own mother turned him in the next day ... he is now serving the mandatory 10-yr minimum for putting that gun to my only child's face, along with another eight years for an unrelated robbery (Florida has mandatory automatic minimums for using guns during commission of a crime ... "10-20-life" ... and Florida has NOT messed around with that since it became law!). A little scary and a wake-up call for me after being an itchy trigger finger away from losing my only baby! Thank goodness my daughter knew exactly what to do when the gunman put that gun in her face -- gave up all the money to get him out of there! Furthermore, thank goodness that Pizza Hut had two very good video cameras that clearly showed the gunman with a gun extended towards my daughter as the gun used in the robbery was never found. I have traveled around the USA from 2006 to 2010 meeting people in-person that I have met online; I have more luck with this than with local people. Looking to get out of Jacksonville, but uncertain at this time as to where I will end up ... Maine would work for me -- that is where I met the woman I first met online; met her in Norway, ME, in 2006, after she had several "men" flop out on her after promising to meet her (when did they flop out? ... as soon as they saw her pic! I was the first one who did not run)! We hit it off from the start but some outside interference broke us apart but we are working on finding our way back to each other. Update on 11-11-12: I will be heading back to my original stomping grounds called Southern California in about two or three months. I'm all done in Jacksonville, there is nothing left here for me so time to go back home. More on this at a later time. Update on 10-5-13: I have a woman in Maine, whom I initially met it 2006 in Maine, who wants to be with me now that she realized that she was chasing pipe dreams, believing all the crap men were saying to her online; I want to be with her too but that's gonna have to wait until I get my car running a little better and get a little more money saved up. Never mind about California since certain conditions in going back to CA were unacceptable. Mother Nature is upset with the global human population! Notice the stronger tropical cyclones, earthquakes, and other major events being caused by human's unwillingness to back off and stop trashing the only planet we have, as of today anyway! Music: 1970s was the best even though I now even listen to R&B/mild rap, which I started listening to in summer 2010 via teenage niece playing those radio stations only to find that a few songs got my attention... "Nothin' On You" by B.o.B/Bruno Mars, a strong opening act for B.o.B's potential long career as an American rapper. Bruno Mars holds his own, coming out the chute with "Just the Way You Are" and following that with a strong hit "Grenade". Eminem's "The Way You Lie" featuring Rihanna was also an attention-getter in 2010, along with B.o.B's "Airplanes" (featuring Haley Williams) and "Airplanes Pt 2" featuring Eminem and Haley Williams. The reason I got routed to that genre of music was due to decades of frustration here in Jacksonville concerning radio stations claiming to be "Classic Rock" stations! Let's see, this one particular radio station, which now no longer claims that status, did not have "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" in its repertoire but yet called itself "best classic rock" station! A new station took over the "Classic Rock" role but it still does not measure up to what Southern California stations put out there when it comes to Classic Rock! Katy Perry also caught my attention in 2010 with her title track "Teenage Dream," of which the album produced FIVE #1 hits, the first female artist to accomplish that feat! As I am sitting here writing this, I am listening to some Pretenders, of whom I have never heard get any air play in the Jacksonville area! Now, don't get me wrong ... I can do without all that profanity-laced rap, but the toned-down mild rap is ok. Amazing what can be accomplished when the rappers get together to do songs together, rather than killing each other off! Why can't the rest of the people in the world figure it out and just get along with each other. Since the time I posted the above paragraph, B.o.B has since dropped his second album "Strange Clouds" on May 1, 2012 ... B.o.B makes mention in one of the songs about how he plans to drop a rock album for his third album -- I would not put that past him! He is multi-talented, not just a rapper! Update: And B.o.B dropped his third album "Underground Luxury" on December 17, 2013. No disappointment from B.o.B except that he did not drop a rock album as his third album but no one is complaining here. It appears, as the title suggests, that B.o.B went back "underground" and seems to do better in that arena. Suffered my first major familial loss on Mother's Day 2010 when my stepdad got nailed on his motorcycle by an inattentive truck driver coming off a side driveway, so this is for you "dad": Puff Daddy/Faith Evans "I'll Be Missing You," a bit of a parody of The Police's "Every Breath You Take" that was extremely well done Puff Daddy (aka Diddy) with Faith Evans. There is nothing worth going to jail or prison for! I do not take anything that does not belong to me ... the rest of you can do the same! Also, as 2012 began, I decided that I am no longer doing any drama with anyone; bring it to me, I will cut off all communication with you, as I have already done with several people including family members! Stop watching TMZ and E!. While we're at it, ESPN needs to get out of its "E!SPN" mode and lose that ex...Expand for more
clamation point, and get back to covering sports, which it does quite well! Update: I have managed, as of 11-11-12, to eliminate much of the drama crap in my life, but am still working on eliminating the rest of the drama crap from my life; too much energy expended for nothing! Communication has been cut off with several people this year, including certain family members! How do I blow off steam? Do you really want me to answer this one?! As for "the wildest thing I ever did in school"? Let's see... In the 9th grade, I was standing at the upper end of one of the staircases above the lockers when, as the bell rang to return to class, I threw my drumstick (ice cream) randomly into a crowd down below and nailed someone right in the head! "It'll count if it goes, and he SCORES!" Also in the 9th grade, I was failing History easily, even before the final exam, so I had nothing to lose... one day, my stomach was churning and I felt the air building up my rear end so I let it keep building up until, while the History classroom was nice and quite, I cut a super noisy fart and basically killed half the classroom! Again, I had nothing to lose (LMFAO)! As for the question, which teacher I would love to see again? My Spanish II instruction, Guadalupe Cordero, was pretty smooth! I was so good in that class that I was exempted from taking the final exam and actually assisted Mr. Cordero in grading the final exam papers! ....................................................................................................................................................................................... Bowling: Just an exhibition, and the 900 series... (For the purpose of timing, ABC [American Bowling Congress] and USBC [United States Bowling Congress] are the same thing, just a name change at some point of time.) On July 1, 1982, Hall-of-Fame professional bowler Glenn Allison bowled the first 900 series in a league setting at La Habra 300 in La Habra, CA. The so-called sanctioning body of bowling, ABC (now USBC), said that the lane conditions were "noncompliant" and therefore Allison's 900 series did not count. Fast forward to 2012. USBC has recognized 21 of those 900 series, including two within eight days in April 2012, that have been scored from 1997 to the present. Glenn Allison's 900 series was bowled on conditions that were probably legitimate due to the extremely flimsy equipment that ABC used to determine compliance with lane conditioning requirements. The lane conditions that Allison bowled on back then, even if "questionable," would be "legal" today due to the USBC cowering out on tough lane conditions and giving in to the bowling industry looking to sell a few expensive and overpriced bowling balls with teched out surfaces, making it easier to bowl more 300 games and 800+ series without putting the effort once required to become a real 200-average bowler. Glenn Allison bowled in an era before the reactive bowling balls started showing up in pro shops in bowling centers across the USA, which subsequently resulted in the scoring inflation that came about so those with 150-averages using high-tech balls could score over 200 without earning those scores. And back then, you actually had to practice often to be any good at bowling! The 21 "approved" 900 series were created by all the technology that overcame this "game" of bowling, not by the individuals' skills at this game. Give those 20 players (one player is "credited" with two "approved" 900 series) a real bowling ball (not a teched-up one) and real lane conditions (not "house" conditions) and let's see how many of those 20 "perfect series" bowlers would even break 600 for three games! As for the individual, Robert Mushtare, who has been credited with two of those 21 perfect series, the two 900 series were bowled under suspicious circumstances, to which I give credit to USBC for subsequently correcting that unfair advantage that bowlers who "prebowl" unopposed and individually receive (i.e., prebowling alone, not with your teammates, and not during your regular league session), in that under an individual prebowl situation, the bowler can establish his own pace as opposed to the pace established in actual league play based on number of players per team. This created an unfair competitive advantage and, along with the concern that one of Mushtare's parents apparently managed (but not owned) the bowling center in question, definitely raises an eyebrow or two about the circumstances under which those two 900 series were allegedly bowled. ESPN's "Outside the Lines" ran an expose' on that topic back in July 2006. Furthermore, Mushtare claims that he bowled an additional three 900 series within a year, two in practice and one other in league play (the league in which he allegedly bowled a 900 series apparently did not have its paperwork back to USBC in time for proper sanctioning and, therefore, the score would not count), for a claimed total of FIVE 900 series within one year! USBC no longer recognizes individual pre-bowled scores unless the pre-bowl is done together as a team unit. If the game of bowling has reached the point to where someone claims five perfect series in under a year, then it is no longer a game -- it is just an exhibition... of seeing who can carry the most! Because of ABC/USBC's callousness towards Hall-of-Famer professional bowler Glenn Allison and his 900 series, I have refused to purchase a sanction card after 1983 and, therefore, have not bowled in leagues or tournaments since then. Until USBC recognizes Allison's 900 series, I will continue to not participate in this "exhibition" that they call bowling! In the world of sports worldwide, I am not sure which one has the biggest crybabies ... bowling or tennis! Take your pick! Waaaah waaah waaaah! The left lane was seven boards different than the right lane! Waaaah waaah waaaah! Try adjusting! I had to stand five boards more to the left than the other lane! Waaaah waaah waaaah! Adjust! As for the night that Glenn Allison bowled his triplicate 300 series? Other scores in the bowling center that night were not unusually high! For that matter, Allison bowled in another league session (prior to the second league session in which he shot his 900) and from my understanding did not even break 600 in the first league session! I bet ABC sanctioned his scores from the 6:00 league, but not the 900 set from the 9:00 league! Typical built-in double standard that ABC, now USBC, runs under! By the way, did you notice the "Congress" in ABC and USBC? Just a thought! Those 21 "approved" 900 series were merely exhibitions, not real bowling as people might have you believe. Glenn Allison's 900 series was real, was earned! Glenn Allison was a true bowler back in the days .................................................................................................................................................................................
