Dan's Story
Life
Computers for the Brain (and main source of income) - (building them, using them, building them again); Music for the Soul - (writing, playing my Horn, teaching); the Great Outdoors for the Heart - (as the rivers and streams still run through my veins).
My two sons (one a US Navy Submariner, the other with US Air Force Special Ops) and a few old friends keep me going.
A lot I haven't done yet. But, I can't complain.
Still - I always look forward to hearing from Old Friends, Old Classmates, Former Students, and those who will always have a Special Place in My Heart....
School
Yikes! "Biggest Crush"? I could get in trouble with that one! (Contact me directly for that answer....)
Inspirational Teacher? Actually - there have been several:
At Buchser HS - it would have to be Don Carre', Mel DiSalvo, John Lambert, Pete Ainsley, Patrick Penick, Ron Hagelin, Don Callejon (our Principal!), Warren Bush & John Sepulveda.
"Do Over Again"? Nothing like 20-20 Hindsight!
"Memories" - Tons of them, and mostly great ones! (Contact me directly on that one, too....)
College
College? Which one?
San Jose State has always been "Home" (in spite of the fact that it has never been a big-time sports magnet!). Inspirational Profs like Vernon Read, Dwig...Expand for more
ht Cannon, Roger Muzzy and Bill George. The Spartan Marching Band, the Symphonic Band, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Life-long Buddies, many of whom also marched with me those early years of the Santa Clara Vanguard (Charter Member!).
University of Northern Colorado meant hard work!
Back to San Jose State after Active Duty, as a stepping stone to my years as a "Classroom Teacher".
Then De Anza College gave me the knowledge I needed for the "real world" of Business and Computers.
A bit of time at San Jose City College (Symphonic Band under Darrel Johnson), and now a long tenure at Ohlone College (with the Ohlone Community Band, first under my own former student Steve Barnhill, and now under Tuba Great Tony Clements) have kept me active as a Horn player (French Horn, that is) for many years.
Workplace
Yep!
Military
USAF Reserve 1968-1971 (Enlisted);
USAF Active Duty 1971-1975 (Commissioned Officer);
USAF Reserve 1975-1980 (Commissioned Officer);
Keesler AFB, Vandenburg AFB, F.E. Warren AFB, etc;
Spent most of my Active Duty time as a Minuteman Missile Launch Officer at F.E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne, WY. (It was that assignment that connected me with the Cheyenne Central HS Band & Color Guard, and started a life-long love affair with Wyoming.)
