Dana's Story
50-year High School reunion is almost here…where did that 50 years go!
I’m not in the 1974 yearbook. Although you can find me in the junior yearbook 1973 and a picture of me on the adjacent page making a stained-glass eagle in Mrs. Yount’s class. I look back at my teachers and remember Mr. Ransom who taught me how to understand the stock market and Coach Keller who made me run laps. I transferred to Saguaro during my junior year and graduated early in December 1973, so I was not readily recognized by everyone.
With my formal Education behind me I became an Artichoke and later an ASU Sun Devil while employed at First National Bank of Arizona. In 1978 after graduation I moved to Prescott, Arizona and worked as an assistant surveyor for Yavapai County’s Engineering dept. Most people would have put in their 30 years, raised a family, and retired already.
But not me!
One day a friend at work took me to the Old Armory where the Police Athletic League held karate classes. I threw my first kick and 5 years later I was training in Tokyo, Japan. Learning from the masters themselves for 15 years. I made Tokyo my home base while I also adventured extensively around the world. That...Expand for more
degree in Surveying/ Geography mentally pushed me to travel to the far reaches of the globe and see life around me from a bird’s eye view. I sailed the seven seas, traversed mountains ranges and walked through the Valley of Death. In return I discovered the fountain of youth and how to remain physically/mentally fit into being a centenarian.
In Japan, over the years I became well known as one of the only few Westerners who learned Japanese swordsmanship from the masters themselves. I lived the spartan life of hard-core martial arts, learned in the best schools in Japan, such as, Nihon Taiiku Daigaku. This opened doors for me throughout Japan as my teacher was knighted by the Emperor of Japan. I accomplished in real life what many actors attempted to play in movies.
I moved back to America around the turn of the Century and created a US patient on martial arts equipment. I wrote several books on swordsmanship and have trained with martial greats throughout the world. I am the recipient of the coveted Black Belt Hall of Fame. For all intent and purposes, I should retire and enjoy my golden years.
But not Me!
I still got 30+ years ahead of me to continue the adventure!
