Dana's Story

I went to school in La Sierra from 2nd thru 11th off and on. My parents divorced and I was back and forth. I had both Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs for teachers. Mrs. for 2nd and Mr. for 7th music. I left home right before my 17th birthday and so did not graduate from high school. This I greatly regreted. At the time and now. Anyway I ended up in the Tri-Cities Washington in 1977. I eventualy became a carpenter apprentice at Hanford nucular power house where I met and married my husband of 28 years Rusty, a pipe welder out of Mobile Alabama. In 1983 we moved to Fairbanks Alaska where I became a stay at home mom and Rusty welded on the pipeline for awhile then became an inspector and then a coordinator for inspection of maintenance work done on the pipeline. We have two daughters, Holly and Sarah. Holly is married, has four daughters, lives in Kentucky. Sarah has a son and daughter, and lives in Hew Hampshire. I also have 4 stepdaughters and 2 stepsons. My stepson Pj lived here awhile when he was growing up and is just what I would pick in a son. He and his family come every summer from Mississippi and spend up to two months with us. He's an oil rig manager off the coast of Africa, right now libia. Now that the kids are grown and gone I work the summers at Chena Bend Golf Course on Ft. Wainwright. With 24 hours of daylight my family can really enjoy golf. My 13 year old grandson begs me never to leave Alaska. Ha While being a stay at home mom I served as secratary on the youth symphony council. Our youngest daughter plays violin. She has played with the New Hampshire Phil Harmonic. Anyway growing up was always very busy wi...Expand for more
th lessons and competitions and summer arts festivals ect. that was fun to do with her. So between three kids sports, and music I stayed pretty busy. During the oilspill in the Prince William sound I put the kids on a plane south, drug Rusty kicking and screaming down there (he was fresh home from an 8 week hitch on the north slope). It was like the wild west or a gold rush town. Tents and camper as far as the eye could see. Rusty had no trouble getting hired but we wanted to work togeather. We thought we were gonna wash rocks. We looked for work for three days and lived in a tent. Then we were in a parking lot when a helicopter landed and body guards got around it, We watched and a man got out and look over and said "Hey Rusty what are you doing here?" It was Burt Hartly Jr. he and Rusty had worked togeather before. Rusty shouted "lookin for work" He told us to come see him tomarrow. We went and Rusty told him he wanted us to work togeather so Burt said ok I'll make you a superintendent and Dana can be a timekeeper and you can have the next vessel that gose out. That's what started one of the neatest expieriences of my life. I've been to Europe and Thiland. I've been blessed to be able to see alot of this country, the next vessel out was a three story Catamaran yacht. I spent two months out there. Beautiful! Killer whales. Coves with bears and eagles. Salmon jumping as far as the eye could see one day. The greatest adventure this gals ever had. Anyways the majority of my schooling was done in La Sierra with the kids that went there. so I would like to reconect with some of them if possible. Nostalgia I guess.
