Dana's Story

Hi there everyone, I married Guy on 9/7/1984. We moved to Huntsville, AL. where Guy worked for a computer company for 11 yrs. Our kids were born there. Son Dylan 25 and daughter Devon 21.(pronounced like Devin). Guy took a job with another company which moved us to Orlando for a little over a year. We then moved to Lake Norman, NC. for 4 yrs. The same company offered Guy a management position if we would move to Colorado, so here we are in Loveland, CO. Guy is Senior Mgr. for his company. Loveland is the Sweet Heart City." It is an Art town. Michael Jackson commissioned a local artist to create a bronze statue for him years ago. Bronze sculpture is big, with over 10 art galleries, along with hundreds of published authors and acting theaters galore. Loveland is known not only for having the most artists around, but we are "The Valentine Remailing City", with thousands of Valentine Day cards sent from all over the world to Loveland to be remailed. We have been here for 14 years. We love it. No humidity. More sunny days than Fl., and NO it does not snow all the time in our area. Maybe 4x or so from Oct. to April. It is hard to explain, because it may be 2 ft. of snow and melt really fast, or stay around for weeks with the sun out but freezing temps. It's always sunny here! No snow days for our kids even in 3 ft. of snow. Kids ride school buses here, and the snow plows are out taking care of the roads 24/7. The roads are cleared and the sun melts them really well and we still drive even with icy roads. You get used to it. It gets really hot even at 50 degrees especially in your car because we are over 5600ft above sea level. It gets really hot here in the summer. 90-100 some days and brutal, again because we are so high above sea level! It is arrid here so that is good when you are in the shade. They also spend a lot more time outdoors exercising. Bicycling is big along with running and walking year round. Bike lanes on all roads. Dylan was a light blonde little guy until he was about 15, and now his hair is sandy. He is near 6ft. tall. He played soccer and baseball when he was younger, but finally decided on soccer when he was 11 and played year-round for years. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado where he majored in English. He is a writer and is working on short stories he hopes to get published. He is an intern at The Greeley Tribune. He has quite an eclectic taste in music. He loves everything from Jazz, (he plays the Sax) the Beatles, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, all 90's rock R.E.M, Stone Temple Pilots,,Etc. Janes Addiction, Velvet Revolver, White Stripes, The Killers, etc. He is a debater and can argue his point against yours all day. I think he should be a lawyer. Devon was a dancer from 3-14, and competed in groups and solo from 5-14 doing Jazz, Lyrical and Hip-hop. She went on Point at 13 after 10 years of early ballet. She decided that was not for her. She was a competition gymnast from 5-8, but got bored and focused on dance. In the 9th grade she made the varsity cheer team. She was the top flyer, and could do scorpions.(standing on one leg and pulling the other up behind her head)! Cheer is all about gymnastics now. She was Head Capt. for the last 2years of high school. She was given the chance to scholarship in cheer, but she did not want to do it anymore. Sad really that cheer is not considered a sport. Devon is a total socialite and can't sit still for long. She is a loving caring lady who has friends from all walks of life. She is 5'3 and tiny. She has a mane of long golden brown hai...Expand for more
r, and brown eyes. She loves all kinds of music like we all do. She looks like Guy, and Dylan more like me. She is in college AND works full time. She is majoring in Geology. We also have a new addition to the family! Landon Guy McConnell born 4/3/07 to our daughter. A BIG surprise, but he is the light of our lives!!! He has lived with us since birth. I stay at home. He has white blonde hair and blue eyes. He looks a lot like Dylan when he was little. He is full of energy and I have a lot harder time keeping up with him at 46 than when in my 20's like I was when ky kids were little. He started kindergarten this fall. I thought I was finished raising kids, but....Guy is a Senior Mgr. for Brocade. He is a black belt in Tai Kwon Do. I do not know many 51 year old men who can do flips and high kicks! I am very proud of him! He has been a homebrewer for 20 years, and knows all about micro brews, and can tell you what is in every beer. He wrote articles for Brewing Techniques magazine a few times. He roasts and grinds our coffee. He is very health conscience. He try's to get me to be. LOL HEALTH NUT! I try. We would love to own a pub one day. We also love wine. We love to travel. Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Vienna, and London are my favorites. Me...I am still an avid reader! My friends will remember that I am a Beatles Fanatic! I finally got to London to walk across that Abbey Road! I have seen Paul McCartney in concert 5 times and Ringo 3. I still love all sorts of music. I am really into The Foo Fighters, Keane, The Killers, Beck, Jack Johnson, Big Head Todd, and I could go on. The RedRocks mountain Amphitheater here is one of the best venue anywhere to see live music. We love All Jazz, All Blues, I Love Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Billie Holiday, Jane Monheit and more. Gosh... So much!!!! I loved 80's music (not so much the hair bands, except Def Leppard).I Had the long curly auburn big hair in the 80's. In the 90's we loved REM, Gin Blossoms, Stone Temple Pilots, Blind Melon, Nirvana, and others like them. I could sit 24hrs and read! I stayed at home and volunteered at the kids schools and was room mom almost every year when they were in elementary. I had a few part-time jobs while they were in school during the day. I am constantly redecorating my home. I get bored with the colors and repaint. I Love change! I would move again in a minute! I would love to go back and live in Lake Norman, NC. again. I would live in a different European country in a minute. I was a soccer mom, hockey mom, dance mom, gymnastic mom, cheer mom, band parent, etc. Guy volunteered for their activities we do the same for Landon too. Guy even helped, even going to all of Devon's dance competions and painting backdrops for recitals. Several times he volunteered to act foolish and dance onstage with other Dads for fundraisers! We are pooped from 25years of kid stuff, but we love it. Keeps us young. Guy works at home, so we are looking forward to the next half of our lives. My mother JoAnne Hinkle is still a feisty broad of 76. No health problems except a bum knee! Still sharp and with one of the best vocabularies and minds I have ever known. My Dad died in 97, and is buried a few feet away from my childhood friend Claudia "Boo Boo" Black. I hope this will give my classmates and others I used to know a little insight. I'm sorry if you wrote to me a few years ago and did not get your message. I went for a long while not looking at this site. Hope you all are enjoying your lives. It's gone by fast huh?
