ida's Story
Well after graduating from high school I was completely lost at what I would do with my life. Life was very different in the 60s so I bumbed around for a few months trying for a plan. I had no job, career or a car. Having a car wouldn't have made a difference as I didn't know how to drive. My parents were very strict and driving was forbidden. I eventually enrolled at the community college and took a few classes and met some new friends. I was not allowed to go to dances or after school activities or have any friends in high school. The experience in the junior college was refreshing allowing exposure to the outside world. I met a handsome young man and thought I was in love and we were married but it was short lived. If any thing came out of that marriage I learned to cook and drive. I made one more attempt at marriage and that too ended with much dissatisfaction....Expand for more
I learned a lot from my second husband and it was that I didn't want to be a bumb so off to school I went this time I had a goal, I wanted to be a LVN. Over the next few years I would become a RN and eventually my BSN. On my spare time I tried to fill in my life all that I had missed as a kid growing. I learned to ride both street/motor cross bikes, take out a 24ft jet boat on the Colorado, cruise in my 1969 purple GTO and my love of all is my Haflinger mare who makes me smile every morning. Then there is Jax my gelding (quarter x haflinger) who is the ultimate trail horse, as they say, "he can do it all." I have stepped away from nursing but continue to maintain my license. I loved being a cardiac care nurse, home health and finally case management. Most of all I miss the wonderful people I worked with. I'm looking forward in attending the 50yr anniversary. Ida.
