Hey bulldogs
Hi Ms Bean < so cute
For the last ten years I've been a chicago fire fighter, taking advantage of the time available to travel and see some of the world. Maybe the huge diverse student body at Senn struck me with the curiosity to travel, although Senn provided the trip for us that most never get to experience right?
After Senn, I went off to a small school in Iowa for a year, did well, and then joined the army national guard to help pay the school bill. I thought $9000 was a mountain of money to spend on college back in "85".
Maybe I should have stayed at little Upper Iowa University because after the army basic training was over at the end of summer "86" I entered UIC.
I did get serious in the next few years, I took a few classes here and there, and a even studied courses before taking them. I learned much on my own, but didn't get the degree in finance I set out to earn. We all see now how easy it is to loose money without any formal training at all, finance degree or not, anyone can do it he he.
At this point, I was floating in and out of colleges, getting nice grades, but getting more familiar with keeping a car, and some clothes on my back to the extent that I didn't want to give them up. Remember having everything we wanted at Senn ha ha, the cars and K-swiss shoes, and polos, Izod and whatever else we thought was in.... Thats right, I didn't know any one with all this either haa, So wasn't it nice to finally acquire it on our own!
Well, many wants and desires later, poof, here we are. We are all starting over every day right. Interestingly I value Senn more than ever after rediscovering some of the most fascinating times and people were right here in our back yard. You see, I went the suburban route for most of my school years before arriving at Senn, and saw the typical, safe, predictical life. Senn was my first window to the world, (I lent that phrase to WTTW) des...Expand for more
troying any prejudice about cultures, and the urban life I may have brought with me, teaching me first-hand how individual we really are. I know many of us have felt this open way for years now, some just now begining to realize. We experienced the future almost 20 years ago, while so many outside of our little world may never even know what they missed. We already know that the future of diversity promises greater and greater experiences, diverting us from any usual, channel 2,5,7,and 9 way of looking at things. The world comes to Senn still, before the news even has a chance to marginalize it. And We will be the leaders we didn't even expect of ourselves, because now when so much of the world is confused, shuffling and clammering, ...we've already been there. Is it any wonder why we succeed? We've sat next to fellow classmates that had to cross a continent or two, sometimes under combat conditions (Cambodia,Laos, Vietnam) in they're own community just to get a chance at an education.... And sadly, some of us had to cross some difficult, at times colorfull terrain here in our own city of Chicago. Is it any wonder to anyone why we succeed like we do?
Isn't it funny the way we wonder how a certain person is doing? I think of the many I hardly knew, maybe because your histories you shared before Senn were so inspiring, and meaningfull. I picked up on a few of the hardships, disappointments dreams and wishes expressed when I was at Senn, and remember most every precious one......
My wishes are that everyone of you deservingly accomplishes everything in life, family and spirituality.
Well, I hope I haven't weirded anyone out or worse qualified for some new fbi list. I do hopeso much to hear from you all in the future though, either in person, or in some respectable media out there he he. And remember...Keep ya head up!!!
( oh, anyone hear from Vinna Mien, or Fitzroy Sangster?)
Thanks, love for all
