Daniel's Story
Life
Catch me at my beach house in Surfside or fishing in the Gulf or on the bay.
School
Fishing, Hunting, Surfing....All cool stuff. Attending Brazoswood High School was like being stuck in a Salvador Dali painting, a surreal experience. I suppose it must have been due in large part to all the chemical fumes breathed in by school officials like Mr. Slade, God rest his pointy little head and soul.
College
Jester Dorm for the first year. Austin was home for 25 years, lots of great memories.
Workplace
I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with degrees in biology (1981) and pharmacy (1984). Afterward, I worked for the University as a research scientist, also attending graduate school where I worked as a teaching assistant, teaching an undergraduate course in pharmaceutics (physical pharmacy). In 1985, I began my career as a practicing pharmacist in the Austin area. Additionally, I was inducted into the Outstanding Young Men of Ameri...Expand for more
ca in 1985, served on the UT College of Pharmacy accreditation committee, as Regent of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity Graduate Chapter and as a Preceptor and Faculty member at the College of Pharmacy. I've managed several community retail pharmacies in the Austin area as well as supervising stores and retail chain start ups throughout the state. I have experience managing a skilled nursing home pharmacy facility and am also licensed in the preparation of sterile admixtures. I was formerly the operating room pharmacy satellite supervisor at Memorial Hermann Hospital located within the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. In 2005, I transitioned to the ISD department of our hospital system and have worked as a clinical pharmacist informaticist since then. I am currently involved in a number of projects ranging from the creation of the AVIATOR clinical decision support model to authoring a soon to be published book on the topic to helping develop electronic physican order entry for our system. I also work on a team that creates evidence based medical power plans to guide physician prescribing and improve patient outcomes for hundreds of medical diagnoses. It is not a boring life!
