To All My Friends at Berkeley High School, Class of '61.
I am very graqteful and glad to report to you that I am "still above ground."
I was diagnosed on August 19, 2009 with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. I was not expected to live six months.
Well, I have a hearing problem. I rejected the progrosis and decided I have a few more years left to live. As of this date, I have beat the prognosis by 2 1/2 years.
I attribute the "mircles" to two things. First, I am being treated with traditional chemo therapy. Some of the older chemicals are being supplemented by newer more effective treatments. For example, Genentech has created a chemo treatment called Avasitin that when used in tandem with traditional chemo treatments shrinks the blood vessels that feed tumors. Also, there is a new radiation treatment called Theraspheres. After a planning session a surgeon sends a million radiated glass beads up your femoral artery to shrink and destroy the tumors. ...Expand for more
As I understand it, the element Yittrum Y90 is a part of the radiation of the glass beads.
Besides embracing state-of-the-art medicine, I also rely on the support of friends both spiritual and otherwise. In addition, I depend on my personal faith that has been nurtured for years with theological training and most recently strengthed in the doctoral studies I completed at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA (1994).
I am working on a book about my experieces. The tentative title is, I Haven't Heard the Fat Lady Sing :A Journey through a Diagnosis of Stage IV Colon Cancer and Beyond. I will be writing as an eclectic, orthodox, evangelical minister(Sounds like an oxymoron tto me...but I guess that comes brom being a "Centrist" in all things in this universe).
As a sidebar, I have written two "legitimate" books that you can get on Amazon. One is titled, The Pastor's Family, The Challenges of Family life and Pastoral Responsibilities...the other is When the Caregiveer Becomes the Patience. Both are published by Roultege Press.
Blessings to all of you!
