Daniel's Story
When I was a little guy, I always wanted to run a bakery on a tugboat in Wisconsin when I grew up. My family and friends always laughed at that cracked idea. As it turns out, I'm not even close by some standards, but closer than you think! - I am in the computer software industry as a pre-sales consultant (that means I'm basically the software expert during the sales process), and live in a house with river access to the Thornapple river in Cascade township in the Grand Rapids area. I haven't quite made the "dream come true" - maybe I should take out some Krispy Kremes to all the river rats hanging out in the summer.
For the essential stats - I'm married for over 20 years (October 1 anniversary) to the most wonderful girl in the world - Pam - and we have 2 boys, aged 11 and 13. We have 1 dog, 4 cats, and chinchilla, a car and a mini-van (arg! no more! no more!). Family is very important to us, and we are active in our kids schooling, activities (piano, tuba!, clarinet, ballet) and my kids perfect day is one spent at the local library.
Pam is very busy with the kids, and has found time in the last couple years to go back to school (Aquinas) and get her Master degree in Education (whoo-ooh!). She is long-term subbing and busy looking for employment in the area school districts. she will make a wonderful teacher...Expand for more
as she is so pleasant, patient and respectful of everyone she meets!
We attend All Souls Commuinity Church, a UU church here in Grand Rapids, and have been active there since helping start up the church in 2001. I've done various music related activities including directing and singing in the choir, arranging hymns and other music, playing keyboards, viola (yep, got the old piece of wood out), and even drums once in a while. We now have paid staffer in that position and continue participation in the music program even if it is spottier now than before. Pam and the kids are very active in the Religious Education program.
As for me, time is filled up with work (ugh!), some occasional business travel, but I fortunately have a home office, so when I'm home, I'm home! I also do some house remodelling, boating, and like to play golf and softball for our church team. I used to play volleyball, both beach and indoors, and need to get back into that. I think I need to make the transition from killer spiker to 'wily veteran' - have to see how that goes.
Well, that about it for now. Maybe I'll come back in a bit and say some more another time.
