Daniel's Story
With no other plans, I joined the Air Force in the Fall of 67'.
I recall visiting Mr. Hamm's class in Jan 68' in dress blues w/no hair.
While I was treated OK, did feel a bit out of place.
I'm sure the anti-war sentiment was rising in the schools.
Because of my ham radio experience, I wasn't sent to tech school but trained on the job.
A year later I was on my way to Vietnam as a ground radio operator.
My job was to support Forward Air controllers. In other words, coordinating air strikes.
This was a stressful time, marked with experiences that have profoundly affected me.
Quoting Psalm 147:3, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds".
While I can share my experiences, I prefer to do so with those I"ve gotten to know.
I will say that a job interview as an ambulance dispatcher was too stressful & I had to leave.
But life, or I should say God, has been good to me.
After I left the service, I worked...Expand for more
as a technician at a few companies. Later I tried software & worked my way into an engineer position w/o degree.
I have been married for 35 years to my wonderful wife and have 3 beautiful, grown daughters.
The oldest daughter has autism & is now in a great group home.
The other two are married to fine young men and I have been blessed with four grandchildren. After working in the drive industry for 20 years, I transitioned to the storage biz after a layoff & am still working. I am a few years from retirement
I spend a lot of time with my church family, working with youth & volunteering.
My two primary activities are distance cycling and more recently, photography.
Both of these give me opportunities to challenge myself, both physically and mentally.
I still live in the San Jose area, nearby to my family and friends.
I have a presence on FB, but prefer to keep to people I actually know but I do make exceptions
