Daniel's Story

(Updated February, 2021) Hello to my classmates! I have been doing very well in life and I have changed quite a bit from the person you knew in high school. After high school, I attended the University of Michigan in Dearborn. In 1982, I moved to Indiana and finished college with a bachelor's degree in business marketing. After graduating college, I came out to California since I felt more at home in California than anywhere else I had lived and I felt at that time it was the place where I was supposed to be. Also, being in California gave me an opportunity to help my parents while they tried to start a business (unfortunately, the business never took off). Since the job market was very difficult in the area of southern California that I was living in, especially for entry-level business people, I ended up going into a career as a professional logistician. I successfully completed my career and retired in 2018. The career I chose allowed me to retire at a younger age with a good pension. After retiring, my wife and I moved out of California and have recently been living in the Pacific northwest. I have really enjoyed being retired and have enjoyed being able to spend more time with my wife. Retirement has also allowed me to pursue some of the things which have been desires of my heart including improving my guitar playing as well as song writing. As of February 2021, I have finished writing a number of good, original songs. I have been finding that even though I am retired, everyday life has been somewhat busy which has slowed my song writing efforts a bit. However, it has been a good kind of busy since my wife and I are spending alot of time with each other as well as partnering together to pray for people, pray for the nation, counsel people and keep in contact with our out of state friends over the phone. Once I have some more songs written, and when I feel the time is right, I will be seeking to produce and release these songs. I have also been writing a draft novel as well as developing some teachings I share with people whenever an opportunity arises. The biggest thing that has happened in my life is when I found God (or better said, He found me). While at Indiana University, God did a lot of things to draw me to Himself. I was not a person who was a seeker or ever had much interest in God, but He pursued me. He brought me to the point where I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior and the change in my life had begun. While the change in my life had a slow beginning because I did not have very much desire to get to know God, and there were some wrong things in my life that I did not want to let go of, God was very patient and continued to guide and pursue me. After a while, He began getting my attention, began drawing me closer to Himself, and helped me let go of the things that should not have been in my...Expand for more
life. Through some spiritually good times and some spiritually difficult times, He brought me to the point where I genuinely gave my whole heart and life to Him. Now life has become a great walk with God as He teaches me about himself and the reality of the spiritual realm. It's not always an easy journey, but it is an amazing and deeply meaningful journey to walk through life with God. Once God had done a work in my heart, He brought my wonderful wife to me. I had prayed for a long time that God would bring the one person that He thought would be the best person for me to marry. I had to be very patient, then He brought my beautiful wife to me. It was amazing how God did so many things to bring us together and help us recognize that He was calling us into marriage. Though our relationship was brought together by God, we still, like almost all couples, have had to press through some difficult things in life. But we have found that as we have nurtured each other and have supported each other in easy times and in difficult times, we have both gone to a much deeper level of love for each other. One of the great things God has shown us in marriage is that we can ask Him to put the love that comes from Him in our hearts so we can love Him and each other in a much deeper way (1 John 4:7 in the original Greek language literally means that the deepest form of love, the unconditional "agape" love, comes from God; He can take that love which is in Him and put it in us). Having learned so much about God's love, I realize now more that ever that there were times in the past when I was not walking with God and failed to love people and mistreated people. For anyone I harmed in the past by my words or by my deeds, I ask for your forgiveness. I sometimes mistreated people, not because there was anything actually wrong with them, but because there were things that were wrong in my heart before I found God. I very much regret any wounds or pain that I may have caused you. Now that I am walking with God, I can say that the more I interact with Him, the more I find that Jesus is truly the best friend I could ever have. He is fun. He is the "life of the party." He is the one who makes me alive inside instead of empty inside. In His grace He has let me experience many things with Him that I had never imagined I could experience. He is the one I want to spend eternity with. I encourage everyone who reads this to seek Jesus. If you are uncertain about God, ask Him to show you, in a way that He knows you can understand, that He is real. Ask Him to show you whether Jesus is really who He claimed to be. Ask Him to help you truly believe in Him. Though He is often misrepresented by people, God Himself is no phony. He is not a fairy tale. He is real. Ask Him to help you find Him. May God bless you and bless your life! -Dan Wolf
