Daniel's Story
Life
Well into the seventh year of retirement from teaching high school English in Napa, CA, for 35 years, I'm enjoying the freedom from those stacks of papers and the ability to eat lunch like an adult in one of the interesting restaurants in the Napa Valley. Edie and I enjoy yearly trips to the Ashland Shakespeare Festival in Oregon, but don't travel much outside the the West. However I do enjoy yearly trips back to Ann Arbor and Chelsea, visiting my brother Dave and seeing a Michigan football game.
Our Daughter Lynsey recently completed her Ph.D. in Linguistics and into a two year post-doctoral fellowhip at Rochester University in New York.
After I graduated from Lincoln, I completed by B.A. in English Honors at The U. of M., then bounced from Michigan Grad. School to Univ. of Chicag...Expand for more
o, working on a M.A. in English and dropping out a couple of times to earn a living. My jobs included a stint at the C.B. &Q. Railroad freight office in Cicero, Il., followed by working as an assistant manager of Discount Records in Chicago and then Madison, WI, where I finished my M.A.
Hired to teach English in Napa, CA, I met my wife, who grew up in the Chicago area and was now also a young teacher in Napa.
I came back to The University of Michigan in 1973-75 to complete a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, then back to Napa until retirement.
There are a number of classmates that I miss seeing and unfortunately didn't see some that I hoped to at the reunion last year, though I appreciate the work of those who organized it. I hope to see more of you from the class of '55 in the future.
