Cynthia's Story
I am originally from Massapequa, New York. Moved to Florida in 1967 and was made fun of by classmates for the way I spoke (despite that I still made great friends) . I am married for the second time. Schools include Citrus High School. I later attended Central Florida Community College (Education) got my AS and AA in education, am finishing up at Grand Canyon University (Secondary Education/History). I work at Citrus County School Board for the Citrus County Schools. Family: Two children 34 girl , and 35 boy . 3 grandchildren- 18 girl, 17 girl, 12
boy, 3 great grandchildren- 4 girl and 20 month old boy and 3 month girl.
Interests include working with kids, reading, drawing, boating and fishing, camping, puzzles, needle point,painting, traveling. Citrus High School. Music I like includes anything from the 70's through today. Books I like to many to list. Movies I like so many it would take years to write them all down.
Remembering High School was a trip, the first married student in school, skipping school and getting caught. Friends, fights, classes, football and basketball games. Hanging out with my friends, making new friends, loves and loses before married. Graduating but not being able to do it with the class ceromony. Leaving campus for lunch. Classmates coming and going with no explainations, and all of us trying to figure out why. Rumors that went around, facts that came to light on some of the rumors. The walk-a thon from Crystal River High to the fairgrounds and the dance afterwards. Going to the movies with friends. re supposed to be at the movies. Visting the graveyard during some of the football games. Teachers that would bore us to death and the ones that really stuck out and amazed us. Hanging out with friends in the smoking area. The WWF coming to our school to wrestle. Friends that were there for you no matter what and you were there for them.
Remembering a time we did not have to wear seat belts, parents had to hunt us down to find us, did not have to worry as much about us then as we do today about our young ones. Friends that you actually had to phone or go see and not text. More kids having fun outside then sitting at a computer or game. Less violence and more of a happier time to be with friends and family without worrying so much about what or who was around the next corner.
So how it seems that life moves on and so does all the people you met along the way. Back then you thought that you and your friends would be there forever. It does not matter how far we have drifted apart we will always have those memories to look back on and remember. Even if we wish that we were still as close as we were then. We keep them in our hearts and minds and memories that no one can take from us, the good and the bad. The experiences that we faced together that are ours alone to cherish, whether they were good choices or bad we had them. All we can hope for now is that our children, their children and so on have the same with the people they befriend along the way. In this day and time it is hard with all that is wrong with the world but we can still hope and pray they they enjoy their school years as much as we did.
