Danny's Story
Life
Where to begin? Ah yes...
For starters, I want to say that I am priviledged to have attended such a wonderful school with many bright, happy, & friendly classmates. On our journey together, I got to know some of you very well and others as just aquaintances. Even though school was tough at times, I mostly remember the good times shared with you and my great teachers (although the teachers probably don't recall too many of my good grades!)
After graduation (which was a close one), I hooked up with some local musicians (called Chain of Souls) and started playing in Dallas & Houston. Our music was heavy progressive rock with a touch of fusion here and there. During this time I met my soon-to-be wife, Michele, at Cedar Valley College & she dragged me out to Los Angeles in 1993.
We and the other bandmates (Enterprise was our name) moved to Hollywood and our journey began. I lived on the corner of Sunset & Vine; let me tell you, it was an experience...especially for a Cedar Hill boy with a maple-syrup Texas accent!
In early 94, the Northridge earthquake shaked, rolled, & broke nearly everything we owned. And, it also broke up our band. The drummer & bassist moved back to Texas where it's safer(tornadoes, West-Nile-virus-carrying mesquitos, lightning, guys weilding chainsaws, driving through Oak Cliff) but Michele & I stuck it out.
We joined a local church & made some friends. We spent many hours at Zuma beach (N of Malibu) and in the evenings ate Little Ceasar's, watched movies, consumed a few adult beverages, & gained weight. See what fun living the life of a rock star can be!
We soon got our act together and got married (honeymoon in Hawaii). I bought a Taylor 410 acoustic/electric guitar and we hit the LA music scene as "Hideaway": a mix of eclectic acoustic guitar & percussion; and with Michele's soft, angelic vocals, we sounded like a gypsie, smooth jazz, unplugged-Christian duo who had spent too much time listening to their brothers' Pink ...Expand for more
Floyd albums (minus the Mushrooms).
During this time, I was playing in the worship band at a church in North Hollywood. The music pastor would often tell me: "Danny, could you turn down the volume?" and "I don't think Van Halen riffs go with 'How Great Thou Art'."
Michele's first job was working the door at the Hollywood Guitar Center. She saw various musicians (the hobbits from AC/DC, KISS, Slash). Soon after she became a Universal Studios Tour Guide and eventually worked as a model. I worked at the E! channel (before Howard Stern).
We had a great time playing clubs on the Sunset Strip. But, after many years of trying this & that, our friends began telling us: "You guys sound Country, you should move to Nashville." So, in December of 2000, we loaded up the truck and we moved to Nashville (like a reverse Beverly Hillbillies).
During our 3 1/2 years in Nashville, we: wrote a lot of new songs, played a few bars and The Bluebird Cafe (where Garth was discovered), won the True Value Country Showdown in Georgia, recorded a three song county CD, sailed on the QE2 cruise ship (like the Titanic before sinking), developed a children's television show, and Michele landed a hosting gig on the "Shop at Home" network as the full-time fitness host.
After years of seeking the big dream of stardom, we realized that we wanted to do something more valuable than just writing three-minute love songs...that's when the children's program sent us back to California. The show was never produced but it spawned a book series that Michele is currently writing. I started a photography business in Orange County: taking shots of landscapes & also teaching digital photography.
In April of 2007, we realized that while we've been seeking after dreams, we've neglected our families here in Texas. So, we made the move back to Dallas to be near them and our friends.
We've always trusted God to lead us...it's exciting to serve Him and see what may be around the corner!
