Danny's Story

After high school I moved to Oklahoma City, where I had a job waiting for me. That job was a good one but I missed Oregon so much that after nine months in OKC I moved back to Oregon. Alas, I could not find a job so ended up going into the Navy. My hitch ended in 1977. I settled in Salem, OR where I own a small house (paid for!). I worked in the photo industry for 20+ years, the final 6 as a technician and process supervisor. The digital transformation has caused a dramatic downsizing of the industry and the company I had worked for for 19 years went out of business. I spent the next six years working full-time in electronics retailing. I now am semi-retired but do work part-time in customer service for a major retailer. My wife Aurelia and I were married for 35 years. About a year ago she decided she preferred her own company to mine and left so I am living the single life. We have two sons - one who lives near Seattle and another who lives in Patterson, CA, and 9 grandchildren. I love hik...Expand for more
ing in the woods or floating down the Umpqua or Rogue rivers. I'm an avid photographer and own several film and/or digital cameras. My other hobby is watercolor-style paintings done using a computer (my watercolors using real paint are few). Music is a big part of my life. I'm a huge fan of Amy Clawson & Coltrane and, basically, my interests range from Maria Callas to Buck Owens to Bollywood. I love all of it. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Uncle George Irwin, because he was like a father to me and a real character. My best friend would tell you I'm a born story teller, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as shy. Unless I've had too much coffee - but that's another story. In 10 years, I hope to be getting ready for my 50th high school reunion. I'm going to get there by hook or by crook. My first job was at Dairy Queen, where I got paid $1.10 hour to flip burgers. What I remember most about it is being the only boy who worked there.
