Danny's Story
Life
From John Muir, to Stephens Jr. H.S., to Poly .....Way back in 62' when things were a lot easier , I didnt think so at the time, Lets see what I recall..Delphi, West Side , and hagging out at Linden Beach , then on to 5th Place,...later I dropped out of school ( not real smart) From Long Beach I joined the army and spent 3 years in Europe,3rd/68th Armor 8th Infantry Division, tank crew man ...I fell in a love with travel and Europe and...my addiction to this day continues to be travel..(I'm still in love with Holland and especially Amsterdam and Berlin, although Paris is very close to the top spots ...along with Barcelona, but Im seriously thinking of retirement in Mexico..)Im still hooked on airports and long car trips , cross country...anyway I had a real great time, even though it wasnt planned, I got out just in time to miss Vietnam...1965... on getting out I went to LBCC and then to Cal State Dominguez Hills, then,,USC , I got married to Shari Shellman( from the westside and 3 years younger) in '71and we had 7 wonderful year together, during this time I got my teacher credential in Elementary Ed and have been teaching since 1971....Los Angeles , San Diego and Oxnard where I am currently teaching.( retired in July '08) I did have a 12 year stretch of teaching for the military in Europe between 1983-87 then 89-97 , I loved that and hated to come back but I had a go around with cancer in 96' so we returned to deal with that , Ive been ok for the last 12 years.... I got remarried in 1983 and so far so good, as long as she can take my "oldies music" and I can take her snoring were ok.. : )....... were still together....big accomplishment that Im proud of are my two kids , my daughter is 30 and teaching school up in Oakland, and my son who is 23 and going to SFSU and majoring in Physics/Astronomy.....Im still a bit confused how being a hi...Expand for more
gh school drop out I was able to manage becoming a teacher and having great luck with my children who are so darn focused on learning ... ah ha! it must of been the milk man!!!.... Ive been involved with Karate for 43 years ( Yikes!! where did the time go??) and Ive been struggling to reach the 4th degree level...( update...I made 4th degree 3 years ago, yea!!!)hard work for someone in their 60's ...Ive been fortunate to of been able to travel, giving seminars in karate and self defense in the U.S. and Europe....Im still substitute teaching ..elementary school, in Oxnard , and ...I just got my licenses as a massage therapist, I plan on doing both activities for awhile ...Im hoping to retire from California and return to teaching overseas within the next year or two , ( update: went to Europe in March, cold cold, cold !!, and was offerd a job but I want to try and see what I can do with my massage license for a year so I'll still be in warm warm California for another year) I still try to get to the beach every now and than and dabble with surfing ...boogie board mostly, guess thats about it , other then life has been exciting and every day continues to be an adventure.....I would like to hear from anyone from the past....like to share knowledge of what became of so many good friends....especially anyone from the Westside...W/S Longo.......Also, anyone from Delphi still roaming the streets? again I ask "Where and how did the time go so fast?" still drive my wife and kids crazy with listening to Oldies ....hay, thats what they call me too....."Oldie but Goodie"..smile ,,,,... ( Update #2 8/13 ,,..... Im still subbing and doing massage therapy, its fun my son is in Mongolia ( Mongolia ??!!) with the Peace Corp and having a great time... he now speaks english, german, spanish , russian and mongolian..... again it must of been the milk man Dam it
