Darcy's Story

During High School and college, I worked for the JC Penney Company. I moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1982 and shortly thereafter began working for American Express. My career at American Express was composed of Travel Agency Accounting followed by IT Coordination and Computer Programming. I am currently retired from American Express. During my career at American Express I also had a contract with the Leighton Agency in Phoenix, Arizona doing Voice Over work, Industrial Films as well as Print Ads. I also sang with the Ventura Chorale as well as the Masterworks Chorale in Phoenix under Maryann Dutton. I spend most of my free time studying the Bible, visiting with family and friends, attending the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses as well as regular involvement with Bible ministry work. My goal is to continually improve the person I am and to be of encouragement to those I come in contact with. I recently finished treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma and am now in remission. It was about 1 1/2 years of treatment with plenty of ups and downs. One thing that stands out to me is the importance of family and friends who love and care about you. I am reminded of the scripture that reads from Luke 6:38- "Practice giving, and people will give to YOU. They will pour into YOUR laps a fine measure, pressed down, shaken together and overflowing. For with the measure that YOU are measuring out, they will measure out to YOU in return.¿ So, thank you to all of you who have been so kind and giving. What you have done for me will be returned to you in ways you can't imagine. No matter what your beliefs are, one thing is true; love and kindness are universal and can be demonstrated by all. Even though many years have gone by, I can remember so many of you. Highlights for me include those who were in the orchestra with me all throughout my school years under Jake Verdades, my associates who worked with me on the Oxnard High Sc...Expand for more
hool newspaper under Mr. Thrasher, the swim team at Hueneme High in my freshman year with Coach Myring, Physical Education at E.O. Green Jr. High with coach Waterman and Coach Cooney. Also notable were Mrs. Lash and Mrs. Brown. There are a few from grade school that stand out in my mind. Martain Saenz, who was the best violinist ever, and a true prodigy. There was Tim Dugan who was in my 6th grade class. He was advanced to the next grade level because of his intelligence. I remember David Woody who always looked older than anyone. There was Johanna Bergstrand who always seemed so tall. Lisa Wong, who was a fellow violinist whom I always admired her intelligence as well as that of her sister who I think was Mona. Just a few more names of people I can think of off of the top of my head, Don Monell, Manuel Saenz, Lucretia Davies, Mary Ellen, Pacifico Guiang, Toni Kelley, and many more. Of course, several of you have found me including Parsiana Wines, Peter Gomez, Elaine Jones, and many others. Please forgive any name misspellings as they are not intentional. It is just a sign of my old age. Of course any other grammatical errors are just that. Just read past my faults. Just one note before I go, I have to send my appreciation to Janet Siesworda(?) and Debbie Ieronimo(Love) as well as David Nelson who were instrumental to my start at American Express. Also, to Patricia Harding, Toni Kelly and Bob Gross, I know the 3 of you sent me notes in the years past and I am not sure if I ever responded. But thank you! I was in Oxnard during April 2009 visiting my family along with my brother Darrell. It was really terrific for me to attend High School with him my Jr. year which was his Sr. year. We had terrific friends including Jackie Amar, Brenda Manual, Carmen Marquez and others. Though we cannot go back in time, we can always reflect on the memories and look forward to the future when things will be better for all.
