Darlene's Story
Life
Aaaah my life...
I was married and divorced before I turned 18 years old. I then remarried and it lasted 11 years. I have one son and am married now to a wonderful man. We will celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary in 2004. My life has brought many ups and downs. I am working at a job that is stressful and I am looking forward to retirement(still a long way off). I spent 4 years in the Army in Germany. I have many fond memories of that time. I am hoping to reconnect with some school friends and Army friends I had way back then.
Well, since I wrote last, my son has graduated from high school and joined the Army. Just like his mom I guess. We are very proud of him. My husband and I went to Hawaii on our tenth anniversary. I loved it there. My job has changed somewhat. Still working in the same department but less stressfull duties. Still living in the Kansas City area. Have a boxer dog named Betsy we got from a local rescue agency and we added a Lab mix named Ford in August 2008. A cat named Shadow tops off the pets list.
School
I was married in October of my Junior year of high school (much too young). I took the High School Proficiency Exam and got out in December of my Junior year. I was divorced a little over a year later. I then joined the Army to "grow up". I spent 4 years over in Germany. I really should h...Expand for more
ave stayed in school and finished. I miss not going to Prom and all the other activities. I hope to get back in touch with some of my school friends.
College
I am currently attending our local Jr College on my way to a Vocational Certificate in Auto Mechanics. I still have a long way to go. It's hard raising a family and going to night school.
Workplace
I have been at my current job for almost 13 years. I have worked my way up from a claims clerk to a claims assistant. I spent time in the Army in Germany and worked for auto dealerships after getting out of the Army. Don't know how I ever got interested in cars but I like knowing how they work. But I can say that mechanics is STILL a mans world!
But I can say, this job is better than some others I have had.
Military
I spent all of my 4 years in the Army over in Mannheim Germany. I enjoyed it for the most part. There were some rough times and some good times. I enjoyed the bratwurst and pomme frites. While I was over in Germany I met and married a fellow service member but the marriage fell apart in 1992 after the Gulf War. I can say that I did some "growing up" while I was there. I remember a Sargeant there named O.O. Taylor. He was really a guiding light to me and got me headed in the right direction. I am hoping to connect with friends I knew over in Mannheim from 1977-1981.
