Darlene's Story

2011 Year It has been nearly 2 years, September 20th, since my Richy died. Actually, I don't believe in the finality of death; things have happened in the past two years that convinces me there is a different plane they go to. I also know that my Richy is here sometimes. I think he is my guardian Angel, as GOD knows I desperately need one. I became very ill after Richy passed. I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep and cried 24/7, so four months after Richy died, I was admitted into the hospital, where I had a heart attack. I also had ulcers and some other thing I can't pronounce, nor remember. The cardiologist called the attack, the broken heart syndrome; however, generally that means it isn't an actual heart attack but in my case it was. Nonetheless, I was hospitalized for 8 days and on the verge of death twice. Truthfully, that is what I wanted. After the first anniversary of Richy's passing, I finally realized he wasn't coming back. I kept waiting and hoping there had been a horrible mistake and he would be sitting at his desk, or watching TV, when I would walk into the room. He is, but only in my imagination. I love and miss my Richy more than words can convey. The surgery that caused my Richy's death (blood clots) is the same surgery I need on my left knee. I had it scoped in April but it seems it didn't help a bit; plus in addition to having arthritis, I also have gout. Today my knee buckled and now my gait is different. It looks and feels like the leg is leaning toward the left. A bit awkward and painful. I have an appointment at the end of this month; however, if the knee continues to act up, I will try to see the doctor earlier. I have attended several movies and go to the Goodwill on Senior Wednesday. I am also trying to get the yard in order; as well as the house. I have accumulated too much "stuff" and need to divest myself of so-called collections. Concerning my Richy's clothes, etc., they are all hanging in the closet and I can't even consider packing them away and eventually give the boxes to the Salvation Army. That is out of the question. Maybe someday. My mother's mental health continues downhill. She has totally forgotten her third daughter Karen; however, with dementia you have to call at least once a day and I do see my mom at least every six weeks. Mom's 89th birthday will be September 5th and she is like a giddy little girl. Mom is marking each day off her calendar and can tell you how many more days until her birthday. I hope we can pull off a whopper, since that is what she is expecting. She hates noise, hurts her ears, so I told her she will have to cope with a lot of noise. 2010 Year My mother, age 88, suffered a stroke prior to Thanksgiving this year, 2010; however, GOD answered our prayers and we brought her home for the holiday and my birthday. Mom is looking and feeling better but she does have dementia and doesn't understand what is happening to her health; plus she doesn't hear very well either. Please pray for my mother. 2009 Year SAD but TRUE My dear beloved husband Richard passed away on September 20, 2009. I have been told by the coroner that Richard had two large blood clots that closed his heart down. I have read the report and contacted an attorney; however, the attorney said I probably would not win my case. Richy was released from the hospital 24 hours after his surgery and was not injected with an anti-clotting medication. I love Richard with my entire being and always will. We had three wonderful, marvelous and happy years together, but I wanted so many more. I don't kno...Expand for more
w what to do. I miss Richy so much and I don't want to live without him. I have prayed and begged GOD for answers and to help me. Please pray for me. 2007 Year Life On June 1, 2007, my soul mate and former husband, Richard V. Whaley, Jr. and I remarried. We reside in Bullhead City, AZ and are so happy to be back together after 45 years of separation. Richard and I originally married on July 15, 1960. We loved each other very much but, when you are young, your head and heart haven't matured and you believe what adults tell you; consequently we parted after two years of marriage. We were going to remarry in 1966 but the lies that split us up before came between us again. Richard and I went our separate ways and we both married, had children, and constantly thought of each other and the love we still had. Sometimes miracles happen and you get a third chance to correct the errors you made. We did! We thank GOD everyday for allowing us the opportunity to, once again, be together and happy for the rest of our lives. Richard joined the Navy when he was 18. Shortly after we married he was sent to Guam for 18 months. I worked, saved money and lived with his grandma Carbo. Richard's parents lived next door and I enjoyed my family and life while my husband was gone. Although Rick and I divorced, he stayed in the Navy and retired after 20 years. Richard served 3 tours in Viet Nam and was subjected to 'agent orange' and consequently contracted facial melanoma twice and lost a kidney to cancer. After retirement, Richard started "Whaley's Rabbitry" in Norco, CA. It was a very successful company and, after 27 years, retired to Dilley, TX where his former wife was born. I was married to Jerry L. Conner for 23 years; however he moved to Heaven on December 23, 2006. Jerry was 63 years of age. Jerry was a wonderful person who loved horse racing, water sports, quad riding, his children, grandchildren and me. School I wasn't the most scholastic kid and basically got average grades. The one teacher who inspired me was an English instructor. I don't recall his name but he was brilliant. The first day of class he told us to forget about everything we had "learned" because he was going to teach us how to speak correctly without prepositions and so forth. I had a great time in his class and learned the proper way to speak, at least for the tests. College After school I worked for awhile and then attended and graduated from the San Diego Business School. I also attended Palomar College but did not receive a degree. I was employed at Kearfott-Singer Company in San Marcos, CA for 10 years. I was secretary to the Finance Director. The company was responsible for building the guidance system for the Apollo moon project; which was very successful. I also was employed by an oral surgeon in Oceanside and worked for the Escondido, CA chapter of the American Red Cross. I worked 11 years for Donald R. Short, owner of two senior apartment complexes in Escondido. I was Don's Administrative Assistant and enjoyed working for him immensely. Don, and his wife Marilyn, are close friends of Richard and mine. To update, Don passed away January 2009. On June 17, 2005 I retired from Xicor, a large battery component organization. Our small group of 10 were located in Rancho Bernardo; however, the headquarters was in San Jose and Florida. Please......for those who have signed in to view our story and pictures, we would like to hear from you, and reacquaint after so many years. We would appreciate if you left a message so we can get in touch. Sincerely, Richard and Darlene Whaley
