More about Darlene:"I'm married to Don Lomax, Sr.(Sept.14,1991). We have 5 children between us. We have 14 grandchildren, , and 1 great-grandchild. I worked at Leath Correctional Inst. for 19 yrs. 3 mos. 10 days.
Now I want to tell the reason I retired when I did. This is the true story no matter what some of you have heard.
Another officier and I had taken 3 inmates to McCormick Inst. for parole hearing via TV. For those that don't know this is a male insitution. We arrivied at 8:00am. Two of my inmates had family members come to give there support. I don't know what town they came from but I do know it was about 2 hours away or futher. The parole board saw 2 male inmates at 10am. At 1:00pm the parole board had not come back to McCormick. I had been talking to the (4) women that had come for my 2 inmates off and on during this time. Around 1:00pm A Lt. from McCormick was talking to the women. She asked the women if they had brought any money in with them. I ask her "Are they allowed to bring money in McCormick? I know at Leath they can't bring money in." She said "No, b...Expand for more
ut I thought that if by chance they had gotten some in I would let them go to the machine and get something to drink." The Lt. then asked the women if they had a paykey. I told the Lt. that the paykey for Leath doesn't work at other institutions. She told them that they could have bought one of theres. I stated that would be crazy to pay $5.00 for something they would never be able to use again. The Lt. walked off and I continued talking to the women. I walked from the talble and went to the drink machine and bougth 4 drinks for the women. I was on my way back to machine to buy 2 more drinks for 2 male visitors that were there for a male inmate when the Lt. called me to her office. I walked in and the Lt. said "Lomax I know you didn't do what I think you did." I stated "I probelly did" She said "I know you didn't just buy drinks for those visitors." I said "I did" She asked why. I stated "They've been here since before 8am and they were thirsty." She stated "There's a water fountain out there." I ask her "how would you like to sit here all this time and have nothing but that to drink." she stated "I'm gonna have to see what I need to do about this" she wrote me up. The parole board came back at 4:00pm to see the 3 female inmates and the 1 male inmate. So these visitors had been there over 8 hours with nothing to drink or eat. Even inmates carry bag lunches with them.
The following day I was called to the Majors officie 3 times. I was told that I was being taken off my transportation job and put back on shift. I informed the Major and A/W that I would be retiring I would not go back on shift. And they gave my job to a female officier that had been caught kissing a female Sgt. on the job. Where is the fairness in that?".
