Darlene's Story
After high school, I went to Orange Coast College, Costa Mesa; basics & Photography. I didn't finish college but had a lot of fun. I learned to scuba dive, ski & started flying lessons. I worked odd jobs: jewelry mfg., office, & retail jobs. My brother Ron taught me to drive a big rig; I drove cross-country for a while, then got a job with Safeway (VONS). I worked there for 27 years, I retired in 2003 at 53. It's hard to imagine that I've been retired 15 years already.
I never got married. I raised my son alone & performed quite a juggling act working, housekeep...Expand for more
ing and getting him through college. Asa turned out well and is now living in Arizona. We moved to Yucaipa in 1997, so have been there 20 years. For a while, I made business cards, postcards, etc. I do a lot of photography and work with charity organizations, photographing their charity events.
I also went back to work for a trucking company, Matlock Transportation. I work about 20 hours a week. I have two dogs and a bunch of fish in my 140-gallon tank. I also take care of a Chinese student, Hailey. She attends a school here; she will graduate in 2019.
