Darren's Story

Life About my pets. I have a black and white tuxedo cat. His name is Felix. After the famous cartoon character Felix the Cat. He was born July 4, 2004. I call him Mr. Happy because the name Felix means happy. Do you remember the song by Julio Eglasias Felis Navidad. Felis in Spanish is spelled Felix. Although I'm temporarily disabled. I'm a God fearing man. Please don't get me wrong I'm not afraid of God. Quite the contrary I love Him, adore Him, I bow down before Him. In other words I'm a twice born, blood bought Christian. I was born again on August 3, 1982. I was baptized in the Holy Ghost the next month September 1982. When I promised Jesus that if He would baptize me in His Holy Spirit, I'd be baptized in water as soon as the opportunity presented itself. That opportunity came 2 years later on November 4, 1984. Immediately after being saved I started attending Church on a regular basis. The Church I attended was the Church that the lady whom led me in the sinnner's prayer attended. Which was Battle Ground Baptist Church. Her name is Roni Sue Mades, pronounced Ronnie Sue Madies. The day before I was norn again I prayed, "If there is a God, give me a sign." It was that simple prayer that brought her into my life. And me to the Cross of Christ. My testimony begins 2 years erlier, when I had a brain aneurysm. or AVM. (Arterio Venous Malformation). On July 4, 1980. It took me by complete surprise. And left me paralyzed from the neck down. And I've managed to work myself up to where I am now with God's help. But God took a tragedy and turned it into a blessing I've come a long way and don't have far to go. I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me. Because I don't feel sorry for myself. That's what put me in a pulpit many people call a wheelchair. I learned how to use my right arm by pounding on my armrest out of anger. I had been screaming for the first 2 years since becoming disabled. I learned to talk a little because a woman by the name of Kay Alvord suggested that instead of just screaming I form words. She suggested the first word, it was the word yeah. Roni called me a prayer warrior because I had all time in the world to pray to God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. God bless you and keep you, Darren Hanley. Some of you know me as Darren Harte. I am a sit-down comedian because when I tried stand-up they told me I didn't have a leg to stand on. Do you need 1 at your next shindig? I have over 300 jokes and riddles programmed into my pathfinder. Which is the name of my augmentative speech device. School My biggest crush was Kelly Carson. Her last name has changed to Gill. I first met her in the 2nd grade at Burton Elementry School. She lived kitty corner to me. I lived on NE 45th ST. And she lived on 137th Ave NE. We considered ourselves boyfriend and girlfriend, in the sense that she was a girl and she was my friend and I was a boy and I was her friend. Nothing sexual. We didn't know about that sort of thing. If I could do it all over again I would make more friends. I started school when I was five (5) years old. I went to Orchards Elementary School, for Head Start. September of 1967. I went to that school until June 1968. In September 1968. I went to Kindergarten and 1st grade at Mill Plain Elementary School from September of 1967 to June of 1969. Then ...Expand for more
we moved in the Summer of 1969. That September, I started attending Burton Elementary School as a 2nd grader. Until June of 1975. When I graduated. Then that September I started going to what was then called Cascade Junior High School. It was later changed to Cascade Middle School by the Politically Correctness Police. I was called a traitor by my older siblings who all went to Covington Junior High School. In October of 1975, they changed the boundaries. So I went to Covington Junior High School where I attended until June of 1977. When I graduated. Then I went to Evergreen High School. Then on December 25,1978, my Mother remarried. And we moved up to Battle Ground, WA. Where my mother grew up. Evergreen High School's arch rival. On July 4,1980, I had an AVM AKA an aneurysm that burst in my brain. Workplace I started working as a strawberry harvester for Ike and Dennis Tsugawa, in the Summer of 1969. I worked for them every Summmer until the Summer of 1974. When I started working for Ericksson's cucumbers and raspberries. I never met my employer. I worked there for 2 Summers. The first harvesting cucumbers. And then harvesting raspberries. Then in December of 1976 I started punching a timeclock. I was washing dishes. for Meadows Kitchen which belonged to Green Meadows Golf Course. Then in the Summer of 1977 I started working for Frank and Louis Natta of Frank Natta Lettuce Co. My stepdad gave me the # before he became my stepdad When I called Louis I called him Louie. And he asked me,"Are you one of our boys?" So I said, "I'd like to be." I worked for them the Summer of 1978 as well. That Christmas my mother remarried and we moved up to Battle Ground and I got a job through my next door neighbor Marvin Bister. Working for James A. Stephens, as a hay hauler. And riding his raspberry picking machine with a girl named Linda Sacrison. I later found out that he worked for my stepdad's father in his bodyshop in Woodland, WA. a number of years before. I worked for him through the Summer of 1979. In Septenber of 1979 I met a guy at Battle Ground High School. His name was Todd Lawer through whom I met Dan Ogden, the owner of Dan's Tractors. I worked for Dan during the Spring and part of the Summer of 1980. Then I had an AVM AKA an aneurysm in my brain that brain that decided to burst on July 4,1980. I was taken to ST. Joe's Community Hospital. I didn't work there I was a patient there. Then after about 2 months. September 1980. I went to (ERC) Emanuel Rehab Center in Portland, Or. They told me that I was in a coma for the last 2 months. I didn't work there either. I was discharged in January of 1981. I didn't work for Emerald Terrace Nursing Home. Or (RIO) Rehabilitation Institute of Oregon. I heard about RIO at ERC I didn't work for Clark Institute. Or Provail. But I did work for The Girl Scouts as a volunteer registrar. And Puget Sound Personnel as an administrative assitant from 1999 to 2005. And King County Work Training Program from 2000 to 2007. Now I'm back in Vancouver, WA. Looking for work. I don't work for Homes For Community Living. I'm just staying here until I've recovered the ability to walk again. I've recently discovered That I'm not going to walk again until I'm walking on streets of gold. Back in 2010 Mr Happy got squirshed under the rear tire of a truck.
