Darryl's Story
About me:
I was born in D.C. At 12, my folks bought a new home in Glenarden Woods. That's in Lanham, Md. That's the first time I got to ride on a schoolbus, a totally different feeling than walking to school in the city. I'd sit behind the driver and drill myself on how to shift. I attended Ardmore Elementary for the latter half of the 6th grade. That was a whole new experience too. In spite of situations I had to endure for the era, I loved the "country folks" at Ardmore Elementary. During recess while playing ball, the kids would yell "Way to go!" and it sounded peculiar to my D.C. ears. I was probably grown before I realized they weren't saying, "Where'd it go!" I used to think somehow they didn't know where the ball was, even though it was obvious to me. My teacher Mr. Fondessey had a saying whenever a kid was unduly pouting: "That's tough!" Later in life, as a teacher myself, I discovered the motivation in that phrase. I went to Bethune Junior High for 7th grade. Kent Junior High supplied my basics through 8th and 9th. Then it was "Go, Tigers, Go!" Fast-forwarding to the present, I am an author of fine books. I first had over 80 novel ideas. Ridiculous, and perhaps greedy, to expect writing all that in a lifetime, especially since I'm no kid. I have ironically reduced that to around 60. These remaining stories MUST be told. If not by me, then those who surround me. Maybe YOU. However, I'm the stuck fly on the wall. I shall try to duck the swatter until I can get them out. Some of my stories are segments of my life. Others spring from my dreams. I should say nightmares. I don't want all these stories that expose themselves to me. It seems the only way to rid myself of them is to share them. Call it folklore. Label them mind wars. No matter. My stories cry out from then and now. Timeless drama is always ticking. So, swing the hands of your clock and set your alarm to go off in my world. Wake up, if you dare, at the beginning of RENDEZVOUS WITH A RUNAWAY. Then sneak to the edge of insanity and allow schizo Megan to seep into YOUR world. Don't let her near you. Disclaimer: VEINS OF EDEN sprouted from a dream where I was a middle-age, vacationing white woman who is cut by an unknown plant. She mysteriously grows smarter and younger. As soon as this phenomenon leaks to the public, the press won't leave her alone and she is relentlessly bombarded with offers and threats from around the globe. Almost immediately, the world is injected with another shot of news--the "perfect young woman" has disappeared. She won't miss you. *** One of my two latest creations is a sitcom called "CRASH WITH CLASS", spotlighting a driving school owned and operated by the mentally challenged Class family. The other is called "WOMB BRATS", a comic script starring an unborn set of mixed gender, mixed race, mixed up twins. Presently, there are no drawings. I call it "comics for the imagination." Kristen(the young woman carrying the twins) either resides or visits everywhere from trailer park to the hood, and sometimes in more articulate places. Ironically, she doesn't know she is carrying TWO babies. Nor does her doctor, who stays confused and amused as to the exact gender. The twins themselves don't have a clue where they are--only that the young woman Kristen is always nearby and maintains their existence. In a manner of speaking, they're underground spies in an alien land, living in dread of "D-day"(a time they believe a phenonemon act forces them out of hiding). There is no limit to the twin's whacky impressions and distorted viewpoints of the "outside world"--the sneaky little darlings even have ways of tampering with that world. I simply cannot hold a straight face while envisioning such untrodden youth and raw innocence of the two main characters. I cannot restrain them inside of me (oops and ouch). In view of the times we are living, I strongly suspect we could all use an extra laugh and if I only induce a chuckle . . . then, I'm happy to do just that. Meanwhile, I will be doing everything possible to cultivate and circulate this comic strip, as well as my other creations. To my students, friends and family who have heard many of my story ideas and have acquired a taste for them, I urge you to lean back and relax . . . dwell on those mental pictures--keep spreading my words. =)
