Darryl's Story
My life has been one big blurr of ups and downs. After High School (or after being kicked out of school for the third time) I went to San Diego and completed school at Job Corps. San Diego was a blast but ppl there still thought we (natives/navajos) still lived in Teepee's and hunted for food... **hunting, yes. After school there were a variety of Jobs from Construction work to odd jobs from California into Phoenix. Basically one big party after the other. I was very uncertain as to where my life was going and those that new me back in the day would probably agree that I was a "Lost Soul", so to speak. It was until I came back tot he Rez during the summer of 1990 that my life changed **for the better. I was visiting my father in a small town called Rough Rock and low and behold I met the most wonderful and beautiful woman. Yeah, at first I tried to play it cool and not let her know that I was taken by her beauty but I could not resist. It was from that day on that my life had some perspective. From the very first time I saw this wonderful lady (Jeannie Lewis) I knew she was the one for me, I was in luv from day 1. We've been together since then and are now in our 18th together. We've got three beautiful daughters (4, 12, & 20) and yes, they are a handful. As far as my career, I've been the field of Public Safety for the past 15yrs from Medical First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, Firefigter I, ...Expand for more
HazMat 1st Responder & HazMat Technician. Currently certified as Health Safety Officer / Incident Safety Officer. My schools have ranged from Navajo Community College, Northland Pioneer College, Phoenix College, & University of New Mexico School of Medicine. My wife serves as Elementary Principal at Rough Rock School and I as the Safety Director for the school. I am very happy with where I am at now... It certainly was not what i had antificipated. The past two years (2007 & 2008) have been the most trying for me in terms of family. It was a definate stage of testing. The biggest blow to me was the lost of my younger brother (Darren) back in December of 2007. He was my only brother and I felt that I had lost a major part of me when he died. My family, my wife have been there for me and without them I would've spiraled out of control. The love that I share with my wife is Unparalleled. It is a new year for us and a bright new beginning.
So for all of you that I have had the honor of knowing and have had the opportunity to share a part of my life with.... the experiences will never be forgotten and I do not ever regret times, laughs, arguments, fights, partying, and just talking... it's made me who I am today. Without experiences you have no real sense of "what is".... so take heart and be strong and live long... hope to hear from you all from time to time to see how everyone else has been doing....
