Daryl's Story
Life
Those of you who find this will will only have limited perspectives so here is a quick and dirty bio.
1960 Moved from Cass Lake, MN to Silver Bay MN. I was in the eleventh grade.
1962 Graduated from HS and enrolled at Moorhead State.
1964 Went under a truck on a motercycle. It kept me out of Viet Nam and I can predict the weather.
1966 Married my HS sweetheart, Judy McKnight.
1967 Bachelor of Science from Moorhead. Double major: English/Theatre Arts. Moved to Ceres, CA to teach High School.
1968 While taking summer classes at Berkeley, my political leanings were intensified. Tear gas taught me that, even in America, you have to fight to hang on to democracy.
1972 Completed a Master of Arts in Theatre Production at Humboldt State in Arcata, CA. Arcata is on the coast in Northern California. I did a lot of Rafting, primarily on the Trinity River. I also did quite a bit of backpacking and bought an FJ40 Land Cruiser.
1973 Moved back to Minnesota to be near the family when mom's cancer got bad. It was a mistake.
1974 Moved to Huntington Beach, CA. Taught classes at Golden West Community College. Did a lot of backpacking and jeeping with the FJ40. I learned to enjoy the look on a terrified passenger's face.
1977 Completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Directing at U...Expand for more
C Irvine. My thesis project was WAITING FOR GODOT.
Worked at Knott's Berry Farm as a sound and lighting technician. The technicians did a parody of the ice show for the skaters. I was the only one who started out knowing how to skate.
1978 Moved to Lawton, OK to teach at Cameron University.
1981 Moved to Seattle Became addicted to skiing. I did a lot of freelance directing, acting, and lighting design.
1983 Formed a touring theatre company, The Good Companions. We toured shows to military bases and country clubs around the NorthWest. Touring theatre is hard work and not very lucrative.
1984 Started driving a Metro bus part-time.
1992 Sold the theatre company and started doing interactive murder mystery parties.
2000 An election year. Since then those lessons learned in Berkeley look truer every day. PS: I didn't vote for Bush.
2004 Had my 60th birthday. Had 15" of intestine removed. I'm selling my company. It's A Mystery now does about 300 events a year. That number includes the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train. I still drive a Metro bus part-time. I'm exploring the craft of video making and editing.
Judy, my wife of 53 years, died September 6, 2019.
Moved to Buffalo, MN August 2021.
Reunited with an old friend, Sandy Pokorny. We winter in her home town in San Antonio, TX.
