Dauneen's Story

Hi to all Quakers & esp. Shirley! Many of you won't remember me because I moved to Utah the summer between our Junior and Senior years. I was there for the first three and was a class officer our Jr. year (I think) I graduated from South H.S. in Salt Lake City then went to college in Logan, UT for all 4 years: Utah State University. Loved every minute of it! I actually majored in Elem. Ed but ended up graduating in Early Childhood because I had married and was pregnant with my first daughter. In those days, one couldn't be pregnant and do student teaching. Therefore the switch. After I graduated and had my baby I went back for one quarter to do my student teaching. While I was pregnant, I got out of my finals because I was busy having a baby, but got all my credits! Pretty cool! My first marriage didn't work out, so I left Logan and moved to Ogden where I got a job there. A few years later I moved to Bountiful. While there I met my current husband. His name is Shannon Abel. He adopted my first and then we had 3 more: one boy and two more girls. We've been married 44 years. I have a terrific husband and family. I taught school for 38 years, off and on...mostly on. During the last 10 years of teaching I became involved with teaching children with Attention Deficit Disorder. We had two children with the inattentive type and that drove my interest. I was lucky and got to travel with my boss a...Expand for more
nd other teachers on our team to New York, Chicago, San Antonio & Washington D.C. One year our school district won an award for being the best district in the United States for helping kids with AD/HD (H represents with/or without hyperactivity.) I ended up writing 4 booklets on AD/HD for the district, which totally blows my mind at their popularity! But they were simple enough for anyone to understand. Those who wanted more information could certainly find it, as it's a growing population that has the disability. My family is the most important part of my life. We have 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and one more on the way in May. We love every single one of them and our greatest joy is when we are all together or even with one or two of the families here. Our oldest daughter's family is the one that is growing the fastest, as she has 3 married daughters who are producing the cutest, smartest kids in the world...you know how that goes, but they really are! Our oldest granddaughter turns 30 this Dec. and our youngest is 3 years old. They are getting so big in their own families that the only time we can all fit in one location is when we have our family reunion at the pool/park. Christmas is crowded but every so much fun! Well, I think that is quite a lot for now. I'd love to learn more about you. I don't check this site very often, so the best way to get in touch would be through email.
