David's Story
Hello alumni and friends. I do enjoy reminiscing about my high school years and I will try to share whats happened since then.. Not too much to say except that. it seems like a long time ago that's far away from me now. If you don't remember me, that's OK now.
I wasn't there much in the afternoon hours. The last two years I was taking Drafting at Vo-Tech. I rode the bus to Central, and attended the first two hours and then was bussed to the Vo-Tech on South Memorial and then bussed back to Central, and then finally bussed home. A lot of bussing, I know! I played the saxophone, and I think I was in the marching band in my senior year? I'm not sure, its a long time ago to remember.
I remember V.D. Schwing, ( The Band Director then) came to my parents house to get me to go to Central High and join the marching band. Most of my Homies know that our sports program was discontinued in junior high (Horace Mann Jr. High) because of the highway that was going to be built around Downtown. Too bad because I liked football and would have continued playing into high school. I was already accepted to go to Booker T. Washington High and always wonder today, with regret, what might have been. This meeting was in-between junior high and high school during the Summer on my Parents Front Porch. Because my older brother and two sisters who also we...Expand for more
nt to Central, I agreed to go to Central and be in His Marching Band! I digress.
My sophomore year, I know I was in the marching band for sure! I remember because of my commitment to the Band Director, V. D. Schwing! I attended the band camp, in the Summer, before school started. I was behind Wendy Goolsby at the beginning of each practice and show. It was OK. Wendy sure was pretty hot back then. I played sax in the Young Tulsans too with Ann Argodale for awhile. Also, I continued playing sax at Claremore Jr. College because when the band teacher (Ken Downing) at Claremore Junior College, found out I was there. He talked me into it joining The Jazz Band!. Ken also played saxophone with the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra. He's since passed. He had been my tutor since junior high.
After graduating with an associate degree from Claremore Junior College, in generally nothing really, I knew not where I was going. I worked at landscaping for approximately five years or so. Then I went back to school at Spartan School of Aeronautics. I graduated with another Associate Degree, this one in Quality Control and Non Destructive Testing (QC/NDT).
I've been doing inspection for the better part of twenty years now. I have a son and daughters. Three grand kids now. I just thought I'd stop to say hi, and yes, I did stop to stay high! Ha ha!
