David's Story
Life
Went to school and then worked for a savings and loan association in the early 80s -- really boring, so I decided to follow one of my dreams. I enlisted in the Navy and became an aircrewman in an aircraft carrier-based jet, operating radar and other sensors, looking for Soviet submarines. Lots of fun -- one of the absolute high points of my life. Lots of travel (Australia, Singapore, Korea, Kenya, Philipines, Diego Garcia), lots of excitement. I got out and became a newspaper photographer, editor, reporter, and illustrator. Eventually, I moved into the world of web site design and managment -- right back behind a desk like in the early 80s. After living in Lakewood, I spent a few years in Orange County, then San Diego for six years. Another six years was spent in West Palm Beach, Florida, then Columbus, Ohio. I met my wife while living in Florida, and moved to Ohio.
UPDATE: Now back in California, living in San Diego.

t athlete, but the swimming experience sure helped me get through aviation survival school in the Navy!
Workplace
Started out in the savings and loan business. Then spent four years flying in the Navy. Got out and became a journalist -- photographer, writer, editor, illustrator. Moved on to become a web designer and web-based marketing manager. Now a marketing and technical communications manager.
Military
I joined the Navy in 1983 and flew in S3 Viking aircraft, flying from the USS Carl Vinson (an aircraft carrier -- CVN 70). What a blast! Had a few in-air dramas, but I came back in one piece. I got to visit Australia, Singapore, Kenya, The Philippines, Diego Garcia, Korea. I was based in San Diego, at NAS North Island.
Now I volunteer in the docent and exhibits departments at the USS Midway Museum in San Diego. Lots of fun, meeting all sorts of new people, getting creative with planning restorations, and even getting blisters and dirty hands. Sure beats sitting behind a desk for 10 hours a day like I do at my day job.
