David's Story
Went to NCSU in the fall of 70. Richard Smith was my roommate for three years. I graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 74. Went on to grad school because I couldn't get a job during the 73/74 recession. Remember the first gas crisis? I got my Masters in 81. Continued to live in Raleigh till 86. Did a career move to Phoenix in 86. Met my wife Patty in 88 and married her 6 months later. "Some day someone will come into your life that will make you realize why all the others didn't work out". That was Patty. We lived in Phoenix for a decade then moved on to California in 96 just in time to take part in the dot-com boom, as we were both engineers. Lived there in Sonoma county wine country for another decade...Expand for more
. The dot-com bust happened in 2001 and after that it was a struggle living there. Couldn't get work except for contracting gigs. Finally threw in the towel and sold our house and beautiful two acres right next to the vineyards. Moved in 97 and spent the last of our CA boom money on a house in Forest Va, just outside of Lynchburg . Been there since. Although I have been commuting down to NC for work and commute back home to VA for the weekend. So I am camping out in a little apartment in Sanford during the middle of the week. If any of you are in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, give me a call and lets meet for dinner. Look me up on Facebook by doing a search on David Franklin Barber.
