David's Story

Graduated from the College of Creative Studies, Univ of California Santa Barbara, Calif. with a BA degree in Fine Arts and Narrative Prose (Creative Writing), then with the Master of Fine Arts Degree in Drawing and Paint and minors in History of Arts and Printmaking. I became a community college Instructor, Art: Drawing, Oil Paint, Watercolor Painting, Drawing, Life Drawing, Design, Art History for many years several colleges About 15 years ago retired from teaching and moved to Illinois where I work at Lowe's Home Improvement in Building Material-Lumber and also in Outside Gardening--very hard work that I really enjoyed! I married Libby Barkan (Banning grad 1962) had two kids, Lauren and Matthew, divorced after about 8 years, and single since About the time of my divorced I "came out" as queer--a very good move for me--and have lived openly as gay since that time. I had one, long term queer relationship with a male partner that went on for about 14 years but we parted and I have lived alone, out of any relationships for about 20 years. When I retired from working at Lowe's in Illinois I moved back to California and now live with my daughter and her husband Mike and three of my grandkids in A...Expand for more
lameda, Calif, about three miles from San Francisco in an odd, old house (built 1896), a beautiful place where I garden, do art work, mostly watercolor painting, walk, enjoy my family and our dog Mac. I have had no great fame in life, no major adventures, a few trips to Europe, mostly mostly to Italy; I learned to speak a little Spanish and a little Italian but these days I'm very out of practice. My politics are very liberal --in the recent election 2020 I did everything humanly possible to defeat Trump, I supported Elizabeth Warren and find my political views are very close to her views. My brother Jack died from pancreatic cancer about 17 years ago and my sister died from issues with Alzheimer's Disease about 4 years ago. My parents died within 2 months of each other about 20 years ago. I have some wonderful memories of many of you at Banning High School. I have not attended any class reunions and have almost no clues to what became of you. In odd moments I think of some of you and wonder where you are what you're doing, who is still living. Any questions send me a note Some people in our class are not listed--does that mean anything? I'd love to know what all of you have been up to!
