David's Story
I've had the luck of the Irish all my life, and that didn't stop when it came to finding the right education and careers at the right time. Whether it was luck or timing, I was fortunate enough to find the best four year communications program that exists at Western Colorado, where I was able to further work on radio (call sign "the Dude") and film/edit top of the line digital cameras and real 16 mm film. Sitting amongst a crowd in a theater showing your work and seeing them jump when I meant to scare them, or laugh when I wanted them to is one of the best moments I've had as an artist. I've always gravitated towards the arts and public service when it came to careers. I spent more than five years as a social worker for Job Corps, while finally finishing my Masters in Teaching. Although I studied to be an English/language arts teacher to middle grades students, I found my dream job as a shop teacher at Jewell School (one of the only Oregon public educat...Expand for more
ional facilities with money in their budget), and love bouncing from welding and woodworking to career readiness and computer drafting each period.
I wouldn't be anywhere without the support and unconditional love I receive from my two daughters, Emma and Sophia, as well as from my beautiful AND smart wife, Jennifer. Today, I just try to keep up with the little women in my life, work hard, and attempt to play hard (when I can) around our Fishhawk Lake community. Playing for my family and I consist of shooting (yes, I am a gun nut), kayaking, hiking, tennis, baseball/softball, movies, X-Box, and writing. I still try to express myself artistically through writing screenplays, and the last one I wrote was just turned into a comic book entitled Safe, produced through Bricker-Down Productions. This summer I plan to write a full-length screenplay and I hope to see it fulfilled onscreen.
Even if I have to use my AK, today is always a good day,
David M. Brandon
