David's Story
Life
I was born on December 31, 1946 in Craigsville in the middle of a major snow storm. In those days doctors often came to the home to deliver the baby, but the dr. could not make it to the Cadle home in the mountains. So, being a true pioneer woman, my mother delivered me all alone until the dr arrived 30 minutes later. I attended school at Buffalo Elementary and Poca HS in Putnam CO, WV. I graduated from HS in 1964 and received a Bachelor's degree in music education from Marshall University in 1968. My first job was band director at Gilmer CO HS in Glenville, WV, where I stayed for four years and then went to Richwood HS as band director for 6.5 yrs. I then became band director at Crestview, FL,HS where I taught for 28 years. Along the way I married Shirley Cunningham of St.Marys, WV, in 1969, and I became the father of three sons, Philip, Jeremy, and Benjamin. Philip is a quality control officer with Assurian in Herndon, VA, Jeremy is a service representative with Lee Buick/GMC and the director of the Cadle trumpet studio, and Ben is a French horn member of the US Army Ceremonial Band in DC. icians. I am the proud grandfather of Triston, Matthew and Aubrey. We are members of the Palm Chapel Primitive Baptist Church where I am a deacon and song leader. The Crestview Band grew from 100 members when I arrived to 270 members in my last year as a band director. I was blessed to travel extensively with the band with performances in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, Atlanta, Dallas and many more cities. In November of 2005 the Crestivew HS Band marched in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC. I received a master's degree in educational leadership from University of West Florida but decided against pursuing a school administrator job. After 38 years as a band director I retired at the end of the 2006 school year. Would love to hear from all my former classmates and students. On March 13, 2007, I was elected to a four year term as Mayor of the City of Crestview and have won re-election in 2011 and 2015. The city has a population of 24,000 with a projected growth of 40,000 in 10-12 years. This represents a new era in my life and I enjoyed serving the citizens of Crestview, Florida..
