David's Story

Life Have been in the Air Force for 23 years now and have really loved it. Spent 16 years living in the Philippines, Korea, Okinawa Japan, and Germany. Have travel many places around the world which has been the experience of a life time. Current living in beautiful San Antonio TX, and I believe this is where I will retire. Cost of living here is dirt cheap. Just purchased a brand new home and loving it. (<--- No that was over 2 years ago) Did you read 23 years??? Man! I gave the Air Force my life. And will officially retire 27 August 2009. Moving on to Work for Booz Allen Hamilton in Maryland at the National Security Agency. Don't ever steer your children or any others away from the Air Force. It has been wonderful for me. It has molded me into a very decent person and gave me the opportunity to do things and go places that I would not have dreamed of. All over the U.S., Guam, Korea, Japan, Philippines, Australia, New Zeland, Thailand, Bali, Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, Belguim, Luxemberg, France, Spain, Holland, Italy, Austria, Turkey, Czeh Republic, Poland, Russia. Without the Air Force I could have only imagined what those places were like. 27 August 2009, will be both a sad and happy day for me, but the start of my new career. I'm moving on to Maryland for 4 months to work in the DC area then I will be starting my new Government Job in Miami. If you are in Miami anytime after Feb 2010 look me up. I always wanted to be a NBA player when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a dumb idea. As...Expand for more
it turns out, they were right, hahaha. I just chill for a moment and calm down. A skill I learned over the years. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Robin Curry, because I had the biggest crush on her every since I got caught writing her a love letter in the 2nd grade.. My best friend would tell you I'm a perfect friend to have., but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as funny and crazy. My oldest friend now is Russell Labauex. Been friends since 1969 at McKinley ES. Went to college out in Sacramento CA and we still keep in contact today. My first job was at the Sheraton Hotel, where I got paid $2.60 per hou plus tipsr to bus tables. What I remember most about it is Me and my good friend Roger Gervis always tried to outdo each other on tips each day.. Growing up in Harvey for those who grew up in my time period was one of the best things in the world for me. Harvey was a very clean middle class community where it was safe to be. People came out on the porches each summer evening and talked. Neighbors talked, kids played in the streets and rode their bikes in safety all over town. I remember everyone on my street were close. The Watkins, Reeds, Johnson's, Bradfords. We all grew up together and enjoyed each other. Harvey was one of the best places in the world to grow up in. Well what happened to my town. How can it be what it is today. Why do we black people let our communities crumple like we do. Harvey of 2009 is not even close to Harvey of 1979. What went wrong?
