David's Story

Greetings all! I have been living in Thailand for over ten years. I retired after 27 years 11 months in the USAF for 27 years and then worked from my home near Austin, Texas for a Dallas company for 19 years. In the USAF I lived in many U.S. states plus Puerto Rico (twice), Guam, Thailand and England. I retired with the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. With my second career I travelled extensively to Egypt, Jordan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Puerto Rico, and more that are not coming to mind at the moment and also to many states in the USA. Holidays have included Peru, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bonaire, the Bahamas, Mexico, Amsterdam Belize, Mexico Egypt and so many more places. It's been great. In the USAF I first worked in the Atlas missile program in Abilene , TX. Then I worked for the rest of my career in calibration laboratories repairing and calibrating the various measuring instruments used to maintain the various equipment used by the Air Force, Navy and other government agencies in their operations. My USAF experience fit perfectly for my second career. Starting in Austin, TX I worked building gas analyzers that ended up in Air Pollution Monitoring systems that I eventually travelled around the USA and the world installing them at power plants, refineries and even paper and wood pulp proce...Expand for more
ssing companies. I did this from my home near Austin and was at the airport almost every Sunday afternoon or Monday morning going somewhere. I went to the company in Dallas one day a year for my annual performance review. When there was no job to do I took my phone and pager and played golf or whatever else I wanted. I have been active in SCUBA diving since 1967 when I learned in Puerto Rico. Have been diving all over the Caribbean, Egypt, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and more. COVID has restricted travel and I am feeling land locked now. Getting ready for later tis week when I will be underwater on SCUBA taking pictures of SCUBA students in training. Two days will be in a 15 foot deep pool and then two more days in the ocean off Pattaya, Thailand. I cannot wait for Indonesia and Malaysia to reopen, my 2 favorite dive locations. I also work with the VFW Post here in Thailand, mostly coordinating their annual fund raising golf tournament but also supporting many of their charitable activities. I develop Excel spreadsheets for their various activities that require strict accounting. Last I do CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings mostly for myself and a few friends that have a need for these drawings. Mine are mostly used for making camera parts I use in diving. Hope you are all well!
