David's Story
After YHS, I went to UC Irvine and graduated in ¿83 with 2 BAs: Economics & Political Science (5 year plan). After graduating I got a job in the computer business, selling hardware and software (Inacomp Computer Centers). I worked for them in sales for 5 years (¿83-¿88). I was then recruited by a competitor (Businessland) where I worked in sales: Sales Rep then District Manager then Regional Manager, for another 5 years (¿88-¿93). Businessland then merged with a company back east called JWP systems. They brought in their own management team, and I found myself faced with either going back into a sales position or take their severance package. I took the package.
After a few months looking for my next career, I came across an opportunity in Colorado to be part of a start-up division for a Copier company (Associated Business Products, based in Salt Lake City) that need expertise in connectivity issues with interfacing copiers with computer networks. I worked for ABP for about a year (¿93-¿94). It was very high stress as a 100% commission position selling 200K-300K solutions to large corporations here in Colorado. Then one Sunday, as I perused the newspaper, I found an ad for a sales position in the Sports Advertising industry. The company was Sports Display, based in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. I spent 11 years with them, first as a Sales Rep then a District Manager, then a Regional Manager (¿94-¿05). In 2005 I started my own compan...Expand for more
y, Chamber Concepts, working with Chambers of Commerce. Talk about stress! We made it though the tough first 2 years of start-up poverty, and are turning the corner of profitability this year. We are anticipating about $400K in sales this year in the black (yeah!). So much for the professional bio¿.
Personally, I¿ve experienced the ups and downs of life. I played tennis at UC Irvine for the first 2 years. I had to give it up due to a shoulder injury. I got married in 1991 and have 2 fantastic kids (Kyle-16 and Mackenzie-13). They are both the reason life is worth living. They are both honor roll students in the IB (International Baccalaureate) programs at their respective schools, pulling straight A¿s. Kyle is in Cross Country, Wrestling and Track. Mackenzie is in Cross Country and Track. Kyle is starting to look at colleges now. He's considering the Air Force Academy. He's thinking pre-med with thoughts of Medical School. Unfortunately the marriage did not work out (we divorced in ¿97). I then met an incredible lady, Michelle. We dated for about 7 years and have been married for almost 3.
I am planning on being out in California the week before the reunion, working with one of our accounts in Rialto.
Well, enough about ¿the life and times of David¿. Let¿s keep in touch. I hope to see you'al in August. I've attached the most recent "family photo" with all of us in it (2006, in Puerta Vallarta)... I'm usually behind the camera.
