David's Story
Retired 2 years ago - now doing some consulting in the heath care field and traveling with my wife and friends. Cruising to the Panama Canal and South America in 2 weeks - checking off a couple of "bucket list items" - going through the canal and descending the longest zipline on the planet in Costa Rica - can't wait. Also spending more time with my 3 kids and 7 grandkids. Hope all the "69ers" from NHS are well and happy this holiday season!
Getting ready to "fully" retire this fall and hang up the consulting hat for good. Trips this summer to Santa Barbara, CA to see my brother, Don; Sturgis, SD to visit friends: Shreveport, LA to see my oldest son, Damon, and his family; Garden Valley, ID to visit an old college buddy and then to celebrate my 64th B'Day in October a week at the Carlsbad Resort in So Cal. Lot's of travel and in between spending time at our cabin in the mountains of northern AZ - anything to get out of the summer heat! Getting older certainly has its' advantages but the downside is the truth in the old adage "the mind is willing but the body is weak" - I still think like I'm 30 but can't quite get the body to fully cooperate. e heck out of the alternative however. Best to all of the Northglenn HS Class of '69.
My oldest son Damon (Gary's sister, Mary Greenwalt is his mother) passed away last November 21st unexpectedly in his sleep. The grief at his loss has been unbearable but we are managing to get through the days with fond memories and prayers. He left behind his wife, Suzanne and three sons, Devin, Bleu and Zachary all living in Shreveport, LA. I have made two trips back to LA since his passing and will be going back in May for Bleu's First Holy Communion. Thank God we had spent a week with Damon and his family last summer. My wife and I celebrated our 40th anniversary by renting a ski lodge in Purgatory, CO and brought our 3 kids and their families there to white water raft, zip line, train ride, alpine sledding and some hiking. Had an awesome time and now have more good memories of Damon. His death was beyond tragic and parents should never have to bury a child but life must go on. Hoping all of my fellow Norsemen never have to experience this. Best wishes for a happy & healthy 2017. Tell your kids you love them every day - we never know if we'll have another chance.
