David's Story
I transferred into Grissom during the winter of 1978 as a Junior from Florida and left for Coast Guard Bootcamp in June 1978. I came back to finish my senior year taking 3 subjects I had left to graduate. During that year I worked at burger King down on south parkway and drilled 1 a month with the Coast Guard Reserves in Birmingham. After graduation in May 1979 I enlisted in the Active Coast Guard and lucky got attached to a small unit down near ditto landing. I got to meet a few of you while you were boating on the TN river, we did safety inspections for all public boating. I had met my wife Sandy Fugitt, my senior year and we got married in 1980. We have 1 son and 3 grand children. I went on to serve as a Federal Drug enforcement officer for 9 years until I enlisted in the Army, to work Counter Terrorism in Eu...Expand for more
rope, I got out of the Army in 1992 after Desert storm, in Ft. Lewis, Washington. The Department of Justice hired me, out in West Texas. I retired from Government service in 1998 after I broke my back at home. Sandy and I finally decided to come back home and we have been back since 2006. I know if we pass each other in public you would not recognize me since HS, I graduated HS at 5'9" 110 and now I am 6' 300lbs. I have recognized some of you over these years and have re introduced myself. It has been great re connecting and I would love to hear from more of you if you can. We are out enjoying the Hazel Green area, Sandy is working for a local Doctor and after I broke my spine and damaged nerves in my hands, arms and legs, I am pretty much a stay at home person. look forward to seeing you all out there. take care.
