David Dudinsky:

CLASS OF 1958
Coeur d' alene, ID

David's Story

1958 graduated from high school. Went to the University of Wyoming on a music scholarship. 1959 flunked out of college- lost the scholarship and left with a gpa of 1.69. Bummer! Went to work in sawmills in Montana and Wyoming and majored in drinking. Pretty good at it, really. The drinking. Went to work for a finance company in 1964- Missoula, Montana. Worked my way up the ladder and moved into a credit manager's job in Missoula. Met my current and only wife, Cathy, who was a nurse at St. Patrick's hospital. Got fired from the department store and decided to go back to college. Started in 1967 and graduated in 1970 with a certificate in teaching (math, science, and psych.) First job was in Rathdrum. To make a boring long story short--I was in education for 25 years; 21 as a school administrator. We lived on two reservations; in one oil field town; Priest River; and, finally Spokane where I was the principal of a Catholic School on the south hill. Burned out in 1995 and decided to do anything that was totally different than education. Since 1999 I have been an ordained deacon in the Catholic Church. Presently I am program manager at Immaculate Heart Retreat Center here in Spokane. We have our own private retreat haven northwest of Spokane. We are blessed to be able to have our privacy on 40 acres northwest of town. We have two daughters- one is a firefighter for the City of Spokane and the other is part owner of Hard Rock Stone Company. We have four grand-daughters that range in age from 4 years old to 20 years old. One of my teachers once asked me if I missed not having a boy. I said, "Lana, I would just as soon as have all women around me to take care of me in the manner to which I am Accustomed. She was women's lib and I guess I was, are, a male chauvini...Expand for more
st. I think I have grown up a little since that time. I think everyone in my class, if they remember me a little, would be surprised that I would/could ever get up in front of people to talk. I have given homilies and talks to literally a few hundred people, if not more on a given occasion. My life has been a "Good Ride". I wouldn't have traded it for the life of any other person. God gave me everything that counted and more. I wish all my class mates the very best. You all had an impact on my very early life, expecially Neil Fitzsimmons who was a "straight shooter". Favorite teacher was Jerry Meyers. Fantastic Science teacher. One of the reasons I taught Earth Science. He was demanding, well organized and an excellent artist. Probably the wildest thing I ever did was go to a couple of dances "bombed" My first crush was Carol Parsons. The girl I went with for a couple of years was Sue Wright. Both were neat gals. How do old friends remember me? Let them remember me as they remembered me. I didn't have that many friends in h.s. I was prettttttty shy! To be truly happy, I would be doing what I am doing right now. I minister in a small parish in Tum Tum and I work at a retreat center. I have a wife I love dearly and family that I love and live for. The part of life that does bother me are the aches and pains I experience for all the fun I had when I was younger. I really should have treated my body better than I did. Can't think of any do over unless it would have been to avoid flunking out pf college the first time. The weirdest and hardest job I ever had was as a "gandy dancer" on a tie gang one summer in Montana. (railroad laborer) I have lived in Idaho, Montana, Alaska, Wyoming, finally Spokane. We moved to where my school position.
