David's Story

Life I've been hiding out in Maitland Ontario enjoying life on the river in the summer and skiing Whiteface in the winter. Spring and Fall are not my favourite times of the year. After MMR I did a stint at Mohawk College and after graduating I started a 30 year long realationship with an electronics manufacturer in Brockville. As the share prices for Nortel plummetted past the freezing mark, our facility became a casaulty and I decided to label myself as retired. My main interests are sailing, skiing and family. I married Irene in 1976 and we've really enjoyed life together in this part of Ontario. Kids? Yes we've got two. Kira is now 23, has graduated from Brock U. and is at George Brown taking a teachers course. Krista is 20 and is taking dance, also at George Brown. She is currently on the Ticats dance team. Update 080504 - Krista has landed a job in Hamilton with the TICAT dance team. Between sailing regetta's and Prepping cars for Mosport This will be a very busy summer. Update 090713 - Kira landed a Job at George Brown College, teaching English and now is in China, you guessed it, teaching English. Krista has now graduated from the Dance Program at George Brown and currently has four jobs, all in her field. Irene and I are really excited for both of them. I had the joy of celebrating six decades on this planet, a little earlier this year. It was great to see Bob Mondoux, Rick Bourque and Larry Kafka at the celebrations. For fun I still Ski, sail and Prep race cars, with occasional trips to Vegas, Cuba and Kansas. Update 110621 Irene decided to retire last year and then she unretired and as of this week she's retired again. Krista inow relies on dance for her income.. She's living her dream! Kira is teaching at George Brown and Seneca college and is...Expand for more
established. I have been interested in auto racing since I was nine. So at the age of 61 I bought a reynard formula ford, got a racing license and proceeded to race it. So far I haven't hurt myself, the car or anyone else and I was 2nd in the class for Ontario last year. I still ski. And finally I'm the middle on a shark sailboat. For me, retirement continues extremely busy (fulfilling), the kids are headed down path and Irene is about to get into her retirement. Life is getting a little better as it goes along Update 131006 Its 11 years since I was infected with the retirement bug. What a blast. Irene continues with her on again off again retirement and enjoys retiring (or is it working) that way, The kids are now firmly established in their lives, both live in Toronto and neither is a parent. I've added a shark sailboat ( It's named Spliff) to the toy collection and I've had a huge amount of fun with it this summer. The reynard only made it out of the garage once this summer so I'm starting to think about selling it. until i do though, its a great car for lapping days. We did a couple of trips last winter and are scoping out places for this winter. My parents are back in Burlington and doing well at 91 and 88. I am enjoying every day! Update 160702 Sailing continues to be my passion. I organized the Canadian National Shark Championship at our club last year and was very proud to bring this event to Brockville.. Irene and I are still doing well and the kids have found opportunities far from home. Kira is in Sydney NSW and Krista is residing and workiing in Thompson Manitoba. My parents are back in Burlington and at 94 and 91 are showing their age. With the exception of losing my sister this April , life continues to be wonderful and active..
