David's Story

Life It's been a long time since cruisin' thru Wayne's, trips to the Wichita Mts., and being a part of the Wolverine world that put a hurtin' on most everybody we competed with athletically in three years. The road over the terrain that makes up the last 40 years has not always been easy nor straight, but it's been a blessed life. I have had the awesome honor and privilege to be a secondary school teacher for 36 years. I graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State) and taught for 12 years in Iowa before returning to the South in the Houston area. I taught in Alvin, TX (home of Nolan Ryan, another 1965 graduate) for eight years and have been at Clear Creek High School in League City, TX for the last 17. This will be my last year unless I can get them to rehire me. I love my job. I teach yearbook and digital photography and occasionally an English class. I marvel at technology and how it has changed our world. Kids are so quick to pick up the new things that I still have to work at. Shortly after moving to Texas, I met and married the love of my life. Pam has been my wife for 24 years. We are blessed with three great children: Justyn who is 23, Blake who is 20 and my "little girl" Logan who is 19. Justyn is a waiter and Blake will be returning to Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas in the fall to continue studying for the ...Expand for more
ministry, while Logan will be attending my alma mater, Texas State in San Marcos to become a teacher. My wife is a true "church lady." She is the executive assistant to the pastor(s) of our church. The greatest event of my life was being brought into a relationship with Jesus Christ as a chaperone on a summer church trip with high school students in 1999. Since then I have enjoyed the joy and peace that knowing and walking with Him brings us. Over the last six years I have come to discover why I love young people so much and my life has come to have true meaning. We love to travel around our beautiful state. We love the Hill Country around San Marcos and Austin and San Antonio. We get away to my brother-in-law's deer lease just to clear our heads. We'd both love to have a place in central Texas, especially if we could take all of our great friends with us. I remember fondly my days at LHS. I will always believe that 1965 was the greatest graduating class in Oklahoma's history. It's amazing to read through the list of graduates who are Classmates.com members and to think, "I remember them. I wonder what they're doing?" I'd love to hear from any of you. I leave you with one of my favorite quotes from Ralph Waldo Emerson who said, "The things that lie before us and the things that lie behind us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." I'm out!
